David Marques was born in Torres Novas, in 1985. He is a choreographer, performer, and researcher, and he regularly provides critical feedback and assistance to dance and theater artists. He studied at Escola Superior de Dança – IPL, he participated in the EXERCE program at Centre choréographique national de Montpellier with a grant from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, and he holds a master’s degree in Aesthetics and Art Studies – Art and Political Cultures from NOVA FCSH.
He started developing his choreographic work in 2007, with the support of EIRA. He created the solo pieces Motor de Busca, KIN and Dança Sem Vergonha, and Comoção and the group pieces Ressaca, Mistério da Cultura (for which he was awarded the SPA Authors Award for Best Choreography), and Teorias da Inspiração. He has created and performed Apagão and Critique with Tiago Cadete, directed the film Teorias da Inspiração with Diogo Brito, and collaborated with Teresa Silva in the multidisciplinary project Enjoy The Weather and in the project Fazer falar o fazer, at the EVC.
As a performer, he has collaborated with Loïc Touzé (regularly since 2014), Francisco Camacho, Filipa Francisco, Lucie Tuma, Tiago Guedes, Raquel Castro, Tiago Vieira, Emily Wardill, and Bruno Alexandre, among others. Between 2021 and 2023, he worked as a facilitator and curator as part of the ITINERÁRIOS Program, an initiative of the EVC and the Camões Institute in Maputo. He has written texts for books and magazines, namely, the ebook AURÉLIA DE SOUZA. Mulheres Artistas em 1900_, the magazine Revista Estud(i)os de Dança magazine, the book O Stand 1.0, and the dance & performance magazine Watt. With Nuno Pinheiro, he co-founded the cultural association PARCA.
He has presented his works in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Ukraine, Israel, and Brazil. In 2025, he is premiering the piece Partes sensíveis, in partnership with Nuno Pinheiro, and publishing Labirinto (in co-production with Artemrede).
