Amélia Socovinho

Amélia Socovinho is a professional dancer and performer.

She began her career in traditional dances in 2003, while still at high school. In 2006, she joined the Independência [Independence] project, an inclusive dance group created within CulturArte and directed by choreographer Panaibra Canda. Since then, she has collaborated with him on various projects, such as Incomat, Borderlines, Poema de gestos, and Mentiras Aplaudidas, among others.

As an interpreter of Panaibra Canda's pieces, she has traveled the world and danced in international festivals such as Panorama (Brazil), Euro-scene (Germany), Danse L'Afrique Danse (South Africa), Festival Di Art Integrante (Switzerland), Global Dance (USA), KIKANI (Mozambique) and Alkantara (Portugal), to name but a few.

She is also a radio presenter, educator and dance teacher. Between 2009 and 2014 she worked as a volunteer promoting the inclusion of children with disabilities in the field of dance. She has taken part in various workshops with Mozambican and international artists, and has received grants for artist residencies in South Africa, Brazil and Portugal.
