Hugo Cabral Mendes is a choreographer and performer based in Lisbon. He graduated in dance from Projeto Quorum – Academia Quorum Ballet and is currently studying for a Master's degree in Choreographic Creation and Professional Practices at ESD. Since 2018, he has worked as a performer with creators such as Raimund Hoghe, Aldara Bizarro, Diana Niepce, Daniel Matos, Adriana Sá Couto, Rodrigo Teixeira, Miguel Moreira, and Marco Martins. As a creator, producer, performer, and director, he made his debut in 2023 with O Ser Inumano (The Inhuman Being) (Cumplicidades Festival) and presented O Campo das Cebolas (The Field of Onions) in Serpa (Musibéria). In 2022, he co-created the children's show A Maior Flor do Mundo (The Biggest Flower in the World), which has been touring since José Saramago's centenary. In 2024, he presented the installation Cartas para a Nuvem (The Gate, Lisbon) and the solo Cartas de um Bailarino para a Nuvem in Catalonia. He is currently preparing This Is Only About Dance, which will premiere in 2026. His research crosses body, memory, fall, pain, and the queering of the male body.
