Maria Fonseca is a Portuguese dancer and creator. She studied Fine Arts at the University of the Arts London and graduated from the London Studio Center with a BA (Hons) in Theatre Dance, developing her thesis "Spirituality & Dance”.
Since then, she has worked with various artists and dance companies at international level, such as Russell Maliphant (for the documentary Nureyev, 2018), Pascal Merighi & Sebastien Ramirez (Saddler's Wells), John Ross, Protein Dance, Jean Abreu Dance, Jack Murphy, Ivan Blackstock (Adidas), Lucie Pankhurst (BBC 2), Jasper Van Luijk (Cascade Dance Theatre), Ekin Bernay, Block Universe, Ollie Palmer (V&A Museum), Company Idem, Jann Gallois (BurnOut), Miguel Moreira (Útero), Companhia Olga Roriz & Teatro O Bando, and Clara Andermatt.
Her movement has been influenced by various contemporary expressions, such as flying-low, fighting-monkey and martial arts, capoeira in particular. Her authorial work includes Muladhara (2010), Red Tears, a duet with Ekin Bernay (2014), IDADE, the beauty of ageing (2016), the solo DEN.TRO, SAHASRARA (2022) and, more recently, THY BRAIN (2023).
