Sara Garcia is a performer, creator and teacher. In 2022, she won the Best Dancer Award from the Portuguese Society of Authors (SPA).
She graduated from Escola de Dança do Conservatório Nacional (2008) and later completed the Advanced Training in Interpretation and Choreographic Creation (FAICC) organized by Companhia Instável (2018). She has attended numerous workshops in Portugal, the Netherlands and Belgium. Sara Garcia holds a Master's degree in Architecture from the University of Porto and École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Lyon (2014) and another one in Dance Teaching from Escola Superior de Dança de Lisboa (2022).
She began her career in 2014 and since then has worked individually and in collaboration with different companies and creators. A highlight was her performance in the piece _Fecundação e Alívio Neste Chão Irredutível onde com Gozo me Insurjo_by Hugo Calhim Cristóvão and Joana von Mayer, for which she was awarded Best Dancer by SPA in 2022. She has collaborated with Paulo Ribeiro, Tânia Carvalho, Companhia Instável, Nuno M. Cardoso (Teatro Nacional São João), Miguel Moreira and Romeu Runa (Útero), Mariana Amorim (Esquiva), and Pedro Carvalho (Ventos e Tempestades), among others.
As a dance maker, she has created individual pieces, as well as co-created solos, duets and group pieces, including several site specific works. Of particular note is her latest creation, entitled SCHULD (2021), which was presented at FIS-Festival Internacional de Solos (Póvoa de Varzim) and at Festival Regards Croisés - Portugal (Vila Nova de Gaia).
Alongside her artistic work, Sara Garcia also teaches classical and contemporary dance. Within this context, she directs group creations at the dance school "Ginasiano" and the Conservatory of Music, Dance and Theater in Vila do Conde. In 2019, she taught in the Training Program for Professionals at Estúdios Victor Córdon. She is often invited to mentor at Companhia Instável's FOCAR and FAICC programs.
