Francisco Thiago Cavalcanti is an actor, dancer, performer and community educator. He has a BA in Dance from the Federal University of Viçosa- MG (2010) and a Master in Education, with a research in the field of Inclusion, Ethics and Interculturalism, from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2021).
Currently, he lives in Lisbon, where in 2021 he enrolled in the Advanced Program for Creation in Performing Arts (PACAP5), curated by the Portuguese choreographer João Fiadeiro. At a distance, he is assistant director of the group SOM, directed by Clara Kutner, which is a dance group working with deaf youngsters from Rio de Janeiro. In Lisbon, he is a socio-cultural facilitator at Associação Voz do Operário, working with retired people in vulnerable situations. Before moving to Portugal, he worked as a popular educator at Escola Família Agrícola Jaguaribana Zé Maria do Tomé. During the pandemic, he created the videodance work Noutro planeta and the visual performance Topografia, both in partnership with Lucas Galvino. He also participated in the multidisciplinary project TRANSATLÂNTICO, directed by Mariana Lima, Cristina Moura and Renato Linhares. Between 2011 and 2018, he collaborated with choreographer Lia Rodrigues, having participated in four productions: Piracema (2011), A descoberta do mundo (2013), Pindorama (2013) and Para que o céu não caia (2016). He also danced the company's repertoire (Pororoca, Aquilo de que somos feitas, Formas breves, True Rouge). With Lia Rodrigues' company, he attended important national and international festivals and showcases, such as: Israel Festival (Jerusalem Theatre), Festival d'automne in Paris, Alkantara Festival (Culturgest, Lisbon), Dance Triennale Tokyo (Aoyana Round Theatre), among many others.
In 2015, invited by the director Márcio Abreu, he participated in the project modelos para jogar, a work that transited between the languages of theater, dance and performance, co-directed by Dani Lima, Alex Cassal, Denise Stutz and Cristian Duarte.
In these 22 years of training and profession, he learned from and collaborated with many artists, such as: Anne Leigniel, Rosemary Lee, Lucy Guerin, Sílvia Moura, Valéria Pinheiro, Elisabeth Finger, Pedro Brício, Mário Nascimento, Alain Buffard, Gilles Jobin, Lisa Nelson, among others.
He is the author of the dance pieces Contra a espada (2005) and Um corpo foi achado (2018); in theater, he made Cabíria corta o cabelo (2013) and Mãe (2015); and in digital media he created Noutro planeta (2020) and Topografia (2020).
