Portuguese choreographer and playwright based in Lisbon. Lígia Soares studied dance, but since 1999 her work shifts across dance, theater, and performance.
She has presented her creations in Portugal and in several other countries, such as Brazil, Germany, France, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, Serbia, and Croatia, among others. Between 2001 and 2014, she was the artistic director of Máquina Agradável, an artistic creation structure. She has also developed various programming contexts together with other artists, such as Demimonde and Face-a-Face (Luso-Brazilian Performing Arts Program).
Following works like Romance (2015), O Ato da Primavera (2017), Turning Backs (2016), and Jogo de Lençóis (2019), she continues to research scenic devices that integrate the presence of the spectator as a constituent element of the piece's dramaturgy, incorporating or replacing the role of the performer. Among her many artistic partnerships, she highlights her creations with Miguel Castro Caldas, Sabotage and Se Eu Vivesse Tu Morrias; Paula Diogo, O Palácio; Rita Vilhena, The Lung and Turning Backs; Sónia Baptista, Memorial; Rafaela Santos and Amarelo Silvestre, Desempenho; and Sara Duarte and Teatro Meia Volta, Professar. She is a mentor in several playwriting programs and regularly collaborates as a playwright in dance and theater projects, having written for companies like Cem Palcos and Escola de Mulheres. Her plays Romance, Cinderela, Civilização, Memorial, and A Minha Vitória Como Ginasta de Alta Competição have been published by Douda Correria. She received the DGLAB grant for artistic and literary creation in 2020.
