Portuguese choreographer and playwright based in Lisbon. Lígia Soares studied dance, but since 1999 her work crosses various disciplines, namely dance, theater and performance.
She has presented her creations in Portugal and in several other countries, such as Brazil, Germany, France, Norway, Holland, Belgium, Serbia and Croatia, among others. Between 2001 and 2014, she was artistic director of Máquina Agradável. She has also developed various programming contexts together with other artists, such as Demimonde and Face-a-Face (Luso-Brazilian Performing Arts Program).
Following works such as Romance (2015), O Ato da Primavera (2017), Turning Backs (2016), and Jogo de Lençóis (2019), she continues to research scenic devices that integrate the presence of the spectator as a constituent element of the piece's dramaturgy, incorporating or replacing the role of the performer. She is a mentor in several playwriting programs and regularly collaborates as a dramaturge in dance and theater projects.
Her plays Romance, Cinderela, Civilização, Memorial and A Minha Vitória Como Ginasta de Alta Competição have been published by Douda Correria. She received the DGLAB artistic and literary creation grant in 2020.
