Dancer, performer and choreographer

Carolina Batalha was born in Lisbon, Portugal. She graduated in dance from FMH — Universidade de Lisboa, and she enrolled in the Dance Teaching master’s program at Escola Superior de Dança de Lisboa. During her undergraduate studies, she spent one semester at Akademia Wychowania Fizycznego, in Poznań, Poland, and, during another semester, she completed a 14-week traineeship at the Movement Lisboa school, where she currently works. She was a volunteer at the Portuguese Red Cross, teaching creative dance to young Afghan refugees—an experience which resulted in the publishing of her first article, co-authored by Professor Dora Carolo, in Scientific Research. She recently participated in the 2024 edition of Cora Dance Festival as a performer/choreographer with the piece El luto en negro, and as a performer in Maya M. Carroll’s piece Waveland. As a dancer, she has experience in neoclassical dance, contemporary dance, and street dance. As a performer/choreographer, she has presented various contemporary dance pieces in multiple formats, and she has worked as a teacher/choreographer with people of all ages, participating in competitions and shows with notable success. Additionally, she has organized workshops in Universidade de Lisboa, in studios, and in schools. She was recently invited to participate as a professional performer and teacher in a masterclass at Festival de Dança Contemporânea de Setúbal. She will be giving masterclasses at INNERCORE 2025 — Movement & Contact Improvisation Festival. In love with expression through words, drawing, and dramatic performance, Carolina embraces the therapeutic power of creativity in trying to find meaning and a deeper, more conscious connection to her mother tongue: movement.
