Martins Simão Tuvanji is a dancer, performer and musician.
He started dancing at the age of 14 and in 2008 he joined Companhia de Canto e Dança da Matola (Mozambique), where he danced traditional dances. In 2011, he came into contact with contemporary dance for the first time, at the invitation of Jorge Ndjozi and Panaibra Canda, at CulturArte. There, he began training with various national and international choreographers and dancers.
He took part in the organization and staging of various events by the company he worked with (Companhia de Canto e Dança da Matola), took part in the All Africa Games (COJA) of 2010, in Maputo, as part of the corps de ballet, and participated in the UMSSEMB ACCORD inter-municipal festival. He staged Makhandene based on a book by Dr. Luís Savene, and played the main character in it. It premiered at Carlos Tembe Municipal Auditorium in Matola.
He trained in Jazz Dance at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Center. In 2017, he was selected for the Teka project, produced by YODINE Produções and choreographed by Idio Chichava and Horácio Macuacua. The show premiered at KINANI and was presented at the Theaterformen festival (Germany) and MASA (the largest arts market on the African continent, held in Côte d'Ivoire). In 2022, he created a piece with Fernando Machaieie, with the help of Idio and ConvergeMais, called Esteira. He has collaborated on other projects since then, participating several times in KINANI.
He has taught traditional dances in various schools.
