Jorge Cipriano

Jorge Cipriano is a black and gay artist, born on the outskirts of Salvador (Bahia). He is a dancer, choreographer and Movement Director.

Trained in modern and Afro-Brazilian dance, he loves theater and singing and studies Yoruba mythology and Brazilian religions of African origin.

He is the artistic director of Ìkóritá Núcleo de Artes, the vice-president of Associação AMOR, the founder of Agadá - Contemporary Afro Dance Company and the creator of the Ọ̀kànràn dance teaching method.

His path has involved Balé Folclórico da Bahia's school, FUNCEB (Fundação Cultural Do Estado Da Bahia), Balé Jovem de Salvador, and Walt Disney - whose team he joined and supervised the more than forty cast members of the musical show The Lion King in Hamburg and London. In Portugal, he worked with important names in African and contemporary dance, including Mestre Petchu and renowned choreographer Benvindo Fonseca. He has also collaborated with the Traditional Angolan Dance Company Kilandukilu and was a guest dancer and teacher at the Batoto Yetu Cultural and Youth Association (Portugal).
