Festival Materiais Diversos

Artists

Portugal, 2003.

Materiais Diversos is a non-profit cultural association, created in 2003, with the mission of promoting artistic research and creation, as well as exposing different audiences to the performative arts, especially dance. This mission is accomplished through the support of various artists and projects, the Materiais Diversos Festival and a Program for the Development of Audiences, in the municipalities of Alcanena and Cartaxo.

Materiais Diversos is recognized, nationally and internationally, for its role in supporting the creations and dissemination of artists, particularly the choreographer Tiago Guedes, co-founder of the association and its first Artistic Director. Since 2009, the Materiais Diversos Festival achieved prominence within the structure´s activities, reinforcing its role as a platform for Portuguese creatives, and also becoming one of the pioneers, in Portugal, of the movement towards cultural appreciation and development outside the large centres. Coming up on 10 years of the festival, Materiais Diversos redesigned its project, seeking to articulate its various axes and territories of activity, and involve different players — artists, producers, programmers, audiences and organizations — around common objectives and actions. Cohabitate, collaborate, share and co-create are the gestures that orient this new cycle and sustain an artistic program which engages with other dimensions of human life and contemporaneity.

Materiais Diversos is an independent professional structure financed by the Ministry of Culture / Direcção-Geral das Artes. It integrates REDE – Associação de Estruturas para a Dança Contemporânea, the international cooperation project MORE THAN THIS (2018-2020), the informal Network BeMyGuest - Network for Emerging Practices and the Periferias Centrais working group.
