A native of Covilhã, he is in the first year of his master’s degree in composition under professor Dimitris Andrikopoulos at ESMAE, whence he recently graduated also in composition, studying with Daniel Moreira, Carlos Azevedo, and Filipe Vieira.
He was introduced to music in a choral setting, and later, in high school, he began studying piano at Escola Profissional de Artes da Covilhã, where his musical and artistic knowledge grew exponentially.
In 2021, he enrolled in the Composition course at ESMAE and, throughout his degree, he participated in various projects and concerts as a member of the chamber choir, the composers ensemble, and an opera choir, among others. By the end of his first year, he had already premiered his first work, Auto-retrato, for wind quintet and soprano. In 2023, he competed for the SPA/Antena 2 Composition Prize with Sunken Dream, a tone poem based on Portuguese poet Cecília Meireles’ poem Pus o meu sonho num navio, for which he received an Honorable Mention. In May 2024, his work Plasticidade for symphony orchestra was performed by Orquestra Sinfónica da ESMAE. To complete his degree, he premiered two works: Emo[dos et senti]ções, a four-song cycle for soprano and piano based on feelings, emotions, and the natural dichotomy between these two terms; and Os que lutam for small ensemble, a tribute to those who have fought, who fight, and who will fight for freedom, a work that embodies and gives a voice to this manifesto in a dramaturgical-musical form, and where various performing arts intersect—music, theater, and, somehow, dance.
