Researcher and musicologist

Júlia Durand is a researcher and musicologist. She is a member of the Center of Sociology and Musical Aesthetics (CESEM) and takes part in the activities of its Research Cluster in Gender and Music (NEGEM) and its Research Cluster in Sound and Music in Digital and Audiovisual Media (CysMus). In addition to several papers presented at international conferences, such as “Music and the Moving Image” and “Séminaire d’ethnobotanique européen”, her research has been published in volumes such as Remediating Sound and Oxford Handbook of Music and Television and in journals such as Music, Sound and the Moving Image and Time & Society. Since 2021, she lectures in music, media, and digital practices at FCSH — Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Her current research is focused on the role of music in the media, in its connection to disinformation, fake news, and political extremism. Besides her academic work, she has been active since 2008 as a literary fiction writer, as well as as a lyricist for vocal music and music theatre.
