André Cabral is a dancer, actor, and dance teacher. He was born in Portugal on March 9, 1990. He began his training in dance in 2006, focusing on street dance, and he went on to study at Escola Superior de Dança de Lisboa. While he was studying, he completed a traineeship at Companhia Portuguesa de Bailado Contemporâneo (CPBC), under the artistic direction of Vasco Wellenkamp.
Over the course of his career as a performer, he has worked with Portuguese choreographers, including Clara Andermatt, Paulo Ribeiro, Miguel Moreira, Marco da Silva Ferreira, Victor Hugo Pontes, Catarina Miranda, and Piny. Since 2013, he has been a regular presence in projects developed by Batida and he has added collaborations beyond the stage with visual artists, photographers, and filmmakers at both national and international levels. As an actor, he starred in Fogo-Fátuo (2022), directed by João Pedro Rodrigues and premiered at the Cannes Festival, and was cast in Nação Valente (2023), directed by Carlos Conceição. He has also worked in television, appearing in series such as Situações Delicadas (2024) and Azul (2024). He made his debut as a voice actor in 2023 in Fox’s animated series Nuvem, and he took on the role of choreographer and artistic director for the first time in the restaging of an original play by Norman Dixon for Grupo Experimental de Ballet (GEB), featuring students from Escola Superior de Dança (ESD). This piece, title Ritmo/Violento, was created following an invitation to participate in the “Dança Não Dança — Arqueologias da Nova Dança em Portugal” program, and it was performed at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
Since 2024, he teaches Movement at Escola Profissional de Teatro de Cascais (EPTC).
