The _Support for Auditions_ program continues to provide conditions for artists to have the opportunity to participate in selection processes for training or casts. Thus, the studios open their doors both to performers who need a space to rehearse or record videos for auditions, and to structures or choreographers who need to carry out a selection process for a new work.

Uma Coleção para Amanhã ⎯ Eixo Atlântico

Coming to its 3rd edition, which follows a series of conversations dedicated to artists and cultural activists from Mozambique, _A Collection for Tomorrow_ will travel the Atlantic axis in 2023 and early 2024. Cristina Peres invites creators from Angola, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe, in a total of seven episodes.

##### Few people remember the social distance imposed by the pandemic that in 2020 and 2021 forced us to imagine other possibilities to communicate and provoke unusual encounters. The positive part of these limitations was the way we overcame them and how we got quite far. We gained the perspective that allowed us to ask the questions we had not yet asked, and we listened to the resonance of the experiences far beyond the time in which they happened. **We decided to engage in conversation**.
##### 2021 was the first year of _A Collection for Tomorrow_, ten conversations with ten people invited to reflect on artistic creation, world, art, and politics, bringing together a whole of experiences that contributed to and constituted the movement which, organized in such a unique way over the last 30, 40 years, brought us here.
##### Along the way, **we have influenced each other**. In 2022, and because dance travels, it moves, comes back and compares itself, we invented a way of building a two-way bridge connecting Lisbon to Maputo. Actually, it already existed; what we did was invite those who made the journey from here to there and from there to here to tell us all about it in a new collection of ten conversations. At what point did we discover things that are better than ourselves while at the same time finding in ourselves traces of what we imagined would be from others?
##### The invisible threads that link the body's memory to all other memories are not easily exhausted - this was the conclusion of these new ten conversations that we gathered at a distance. So, why not spread the discussion, moving from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic, and propose again in 2023 a new _Collection for Tomorrow_? Lisbon - Cape Verde, Angola and S. Tomé and Príncipe are waiting for a connection.

Now in its 3rd edition, which follows a series of conversations dedicated to artists and cultural activists from Mozambique, _A Collection for Tomorrow_ now dives into the Atlantic. The program's curator, Cristina Peres, invites artists from Angola, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe, making a total of seven episodes.

Luciene Cabral [stage name Luciény Kaabral] was born in Praia, Cape Verde, in 2001. She began her career as a dancer in the Raiz Di Polon company and met choreographer Nuno Barreto in a research laboratory on movement, body expression and traditional dances. In 2020 she joined the cast of the Sadler's Wells, Pina Bausch Foundation and École Des Sables production of "The Rite of Spring". She joined Pina Bausch's Tanztheater Wupperttal as a dancer in 2023.

Djamilson Barreto dos Santos (stage name Nuno Barreto) was born in Praia and is 43 years old. He has been a dancer for over a decade, is a cultural activist and is part of the Raiz Di Polon dance company. He created and also performs the pieces Linhas di Kommuni, Torna Liga, Dos Porta, Cisne Pretu, Stratus di Sociedadi and Izulamentu20.

Luciény and Nuno co-founded the "Badju Kabu Kaba" project with the aim of promoting dance in Cape Verde.

A Collection for Tomorrow ● Atlantic Axis ⏤ with Luciény Kaabral and Nuno Barreto

Now in its 3rd edition, which follows a series of conversations dedicated to artists and cultural activists from Mozambique, _A Collection for Tomorrow_ now dives into the Atlantic. The program's curator, Cristina Peres, invites artists from Angola, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe, making a total of seven episodes.

In the first episode of this new season, we go to Cape Verde to meet and listen to António Tavares, a choreographer and cultural agitator based in Mindelo (São Vicente). In addition to being a choreographer and cultural agitator, António Tavares also works as a dancer, researcher, musician and designer. He thinks of his dance within the framework of decolonization and believes that Cape Verde is waiting for a "bodily revolution" to free itself from the bonds of colonial times. Considered one of the key figures in the history of contemporary dance, he argues that dance, more than artistic performance, is philosophy, politics and utopia.

A COLLECTION FOR TOMORROW ⏤ ATLANTIC AXIS with António Tavares

A series of conversations guided by Cristina Peres and directed by João Afonso Vaz, broadcasted on EVC's Youtube channel, dedicated to artists from Angola, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe. The series, which began in 2023, moves into the new season with the release of six new episodes.

A Portuguese-Angolan artist living in São Tomé and Príncipe, Bibiana Figueiredo is a dancer, dance teacher, choreographer and founder of the RaizArte project. She studied at Balleteatro (Porto) and has a degree in dance from Escola Superior de Dança (Lisboa). RaizArte promotes dance and theater through artistic training, community involvement and by organizing cultural events. 

She is currently preparing the third edition of XÊ- Festa da Dança Contemporânea 2024, the first contemporary dance festival in the country. She has a degree in Education from Universidade Aberta, (Portugal), and integrates art and education into her development projects.

##### Já poucos se lembram da distância social imposta pela pandemia que em 2020 e 2021 nos obrigou a imaginar outras possibilidades de comunicar e provocar encontros improváveis. A parte feliz dessas limitações foi a forma como as ultrapassámos e chegámos longe. Ganhámos o recuo que nos permitiu formular as perguntas que ainda não tínhamos feito e auscultámos a ressonância das experiências muito para além do tempo em que aconteceram. **Decidimos conversar**.

Em 2022, e porque a dança viaja, vai, volta e compara-se, inventámos uma forma de construir uma ponte com dois sentidos ligando Lisboa a Maputo. Na verdade ela já existia, o que fizemos foi convidar quem fez o percurso de cá para lá e de lá para cá a contar tudo numa nova coleção de dez conversas. Em que momento descobrimos coisas melhores do que nós próprios ao mesmo tempo que encontrámos em nós vestígios daquilo que imaginávamos que seria dos outros?
##### Os fios invisíveis que associam a memória do corpo às outras todas não se esgotam facilmente, foi a conclusão destes novos dez diálogos que reunimos à distância. Então, porque não espalhar a conversa do Índico para o lado do Atlântico e voltar a propor para 2023 a sistematização de uma nova coleção de conversas? Lisboa - Cabo Verde, Angola e S. >Before the world underwent the great change that 2020 brought us globally and almost simultaneously, dance was no longer just the art of the virtuous, aerial, indisputable body outside the canons that allowed it to fly, but at the same time locked it in a code that removed it from the larger discussion of the body. 
>The dancing body opened the way to the expression of many other bodies and to a diversity of experiences that created a mixture. Cutting short the story, which is after all recent, we decided to add the word and reflection to formulate in another way, and in parallel, the discoveries that the bodies led us to make.
>
> The imposition of social distance brought us other possibilities of having or provoking unlikely encounters. It gave us ideas about the questions we hadn't yet asked, about the resonance of experiences beyond the subject matter dealt with at the time. 
> 
> For the collective memory, thousands of themes that made us the people we are today remain unnamed. We want to know more about the paths of the people who, in the past, led to breakthroughs in Portuguese performing arts, whether that time was ten, 20 or 30 years ago. We want to know who they are today and why they are like that. And to discover who we are after having come across them.  
> 
> Dance in Portugal has traveled. It went outside and came back, it compared itself. To compare oneself to the reality of the other is the greatest and most essential experience in the construction of the self. At what point do we discover things that are better than us at the same time that we discover in ourselves traces of what we imagined to be in others?
> 
> Dance relates to a multiplicity of "layers" of all people and, therefore, of the public too. We might be more used to resorting to reason to discuss what we saw in a performance, but our muscles "saw" us at the same time. Did the muscles "talk" about the experience? Probably not. Hence, the series of interviews promoted by the EVC will be dedicated to the questions that were never asked to people who were there at the time, and are here again. Maybe they were headliners then, yet now they will be reflecting. And they are going to transform those who were not headliners into protagonists of the change that made us as we are.

> I, Cristina Peres, will ask the questions and lead people to question themselves. I was there ten, 20, 30 years ago, but I haven't seen everything, either. As we can never have a clear notion of the present, the past, and the future in a single moment, we will try to look at the trace that remained, valuing our being a point of arrival. The _Wording Dances_ podcast proposes a lecture series where renowned artists from the international contemporary dance scene discuss matters which make of dancing and choreographing an inexhaustible terrain of experimentation, problematization and thinking. Curated by Carlos Manuel Oliveira, it is a co-production between EVC and Parasita Association.

Alongside the singularity of each artist's work, lines of thought will be exposed in relation to politics in dance, social choreography, the relationship between dance and language, creative processes and their respective products, or even in relation to the cognition of corporealities. By posing questions such as _What can choreographic thinking do?_, we hope to summon up unique answers, based on what each artist is most dedicated to. In short, the word is given to those who dance and make others dance, but who also question dance and make others think.

In this episode of _Wording Dances_, English dancer and choreographer Siobhan Davies reads to us _Postcards from a life which dances_, a text which she wrote exclusively for this occasion. 

Davies is engaged with image gathering, drawing, writing and conversation as extensions of dance and choreography. She has been active for over 50 years, making work for both theatres and galleries and, in 2006, together with architect Sarah Wigglesworth, created the Siobhan Davies Dance Studios, in London. She retired from the studios in 2020, but remains an associate professor at Coventry University (Cdare).

Marcelo lives between Teresina and Amsterdam, and works in Brazil, Japan and many European countries as an independent artist. He coordinates the Demolition Incorporada Platform, based in CAMPO, a Performing Arts Residency and Resistance space in Teresina, Piauí. Marcelo began working as a choreographer in 1989 and has a body of work comprising more than 30 pieces, of which _Barricada_, _A Invenção da Maldade_ [The Invention of Evilness] and _ai, ai, ai_ are still touring. He teaches at the Amsterdam University of the Arts since 1999 and is responsible for artistic creation projects at universities and master's courses, such as ISAC (Higher School of Arts and Choreography of Brussels), the Reina Sofia Museum (Madrid), EXERCE (Montpellier) and Centre National de la Danse (Paris). In 2019, he was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa by the Federal University of Piauí. His works are performed in theatres and festivals all over the world, such as Festival d'Automne (Paris), Kunsten Festival des Arts (Brussels), Teatro Rivoli (Porto) or Festival Alkantara (Lisbon), where this year he presented Demolition Incorporada's latest piece, _UIRAPURU_.

Wording Dances ⏤ Marcelo Evelin & Neguxa Uau

_Wording Dances_ presents a series of episodes, both in English and Portuguese, where renowned artists from the international contemporary dance scene discuss matters which make of dancing and choreographing an inexhaustible terrain of experimentation, problematization and thinking. 

In a co-production between Estúdios Victor Córdon and Parasita Association, the project is curated by Carlos Manuel Oliveira.

In this new episode of “Wording Dances”, we welcome deufert&plischke, the Artistwin, to read to us from a text which they wrote exclusively for this occasion, entitled “Grand Opening”. Dr Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke have formed the artistwin deufert&plischke in 2001, and in the last 22 years they have realised over 50 theatre projects that deal with artistic production situations and the complex social dynamics of artistic processes. They have created the Anarchiv series, the Emergence Rooms, the Entropic Institutes, the DURCHEINANDER series, and the dance history project Just in Time, to name a few of their many outputs. All series of works span thematically wide arcs from the origins of Greek mythology to the pressing questions of our time: How do we communicate in a community of strangers? How do we make decisions together? How do we take responsibility for ourselves and for others? Their works go beyond the boundaries of dance and theatre and deal with individual participation and the social everyday in artistic events.

In this new episode, we are joined by Jonathan Burrows for a reading of his texts _Rhythmm_, _Traces_ and _History_, which he wrote in recent years and which were also compiled in a book published by Varamo Press in 2022, entitled _Writing Dance_. Jonathan Burrows' main focus is an ongoing body of pieces with the composer Matteo Fargion, with whom he continues to perform around the world. He is the author of _A Choreographer's Handbook_ (Routledge 2010) and _Writing Dance_ (Varamo 2022) and is currently an Associate Professor at the Centre for Dance Research, Coventry University.

O podcast _Falar as Danças_ apresenta uma série de palestras, em que artistas da cena internacional da dança contemporânea discorrem sobre matérias que fazem da dança e da coreografia um inesgotável terreno de experimentação, problematização e pensamento. Com a curadoria de Carlos Manuel Oliveira, o programa é uma coprodução entre os Estúdios Victor Córdon e a Associação Parasita.

Pretende-se dar conta da riqueza, diversidade e alcance do pensamento coreográfico atual, bem como da profusão de discursos a que a dança contemporânea tem dado origem, percorrendo uma variedade de questões que fazem da sua problematização um campo de exploração e criação inesgotável. A par da singularidade do trabalho de cada artista, serão expostas linhas de pensamento em relação a questões de política na dança, coreografia social, dança e linguagem, processos de criação e respectivos produtos, ou ainda em relação à cognição das corporalidades. Lançando questões tão genéricas quanto _O que pode o pensamento coreográfico?_, espera-se convocar um conjunto de respostas singulares, enunciadas a partir das matérias a que cada artista mais se dedica. Em suma, dá-se a ouvir a voz de quem dança e faz dançar, mas que não menos questiona a dança e faz pensar.

Território VII

_Territory_ is a program dedicated to young dancers aged between 14 and 18 from dance schools all over the country. Every year the program welcomes internationally renowned choreographers who share their works and creative processes with the group of young people selected for each edition.  

Over the course of its many editions, _Territory_ has welcomed more than 80 young dancers from across the country, coming from nearly 40 dance schools in over 30 Portuguese cities.

In 2024, and in line with the other programs of this season, we propose a show that hints at possible new paths for contemporary dance. On the one hand, we have invited the renowned British-Bangladeshi choreographer Akram Khan, who, by incorporating elements of classical Indian Kathak dance into his works, contributes to redefining our idea of what dance is. On the other hand, EVC will welcome Jermaine Spivey, an emerging American choreographer who, alongside a brilliant career as a dancer, actively promotes the possibility of collaborative practice in his creative processes.

_Territory VII_ will also feature a short film by director João Sanchez, winner of the Território | Estúdios Victor Córdon award for Best Portuguese Director from InShadow - Lisbon ScreenDance Festival 2023. 


In its 7th edition, the _Territory_ program invites the renowned British-Bangladeshi choreographer Akram Khan, and the emerging American choreographer Jermaine Spivey. 

The program works as a platform for early career development, annually selecting up to twelve young dancers from dance schools across the country.

Applications must be submitted through an online form, to be filled out exclusively by the candidates' teaching institutions. All dance schools in the country can apply their students to the program, and each institution can propose a maximum of 5 candidates.

_Território_ é um programa dedicado a jovens bailarinos(as) com idade compreendida entre os 14 e os 18 anos, provenientes de escolas de dança de todo o país. O programa acolhe anualmente coreógrafos de relevância internacional que partilham as suas obras e processos de criação com o grupo de jovens selecionados(as) em cada edição.  

Ao longo das suas várias temporadas,_Território_ já acolheu mais de 80 jovens de todo o país, provenientes de cerca de 40 escolas de dança espalhadas por mais de 30 cidades portuguesas.

Em 2024, e em linha com a restante programação da temporada, propomos um espetáculo que traz pistas de caminhos possíveis para a dança na contemporaneidade. Por um lado, convidámos o coreógrafo consagrado britânico-bangladechiano Akram Khan, que, ao transportar elementos da dança clássica indiana Kathak para as suas criações, contribui para uma redefinição da nossa ideia do que é dançar. E, por outro lado, receberemos nos EVC Jermaine Spivey, coreógrafo norte-americano em clara ascensão, que, a par de uma brilhante carreira enquanto intérprete, convoca ativamente a ideia de uma prática colaborativa nos seus processos de criação.

_Território VII_ contará ainda com uma curta-metragem do realizador João Sanchez, vencedor do prémio Território | Estúdios Victor Córdon na categoria de Melhor Realizador Português do InShadow – Lisbon ScreenDance Festival 2023.

Already in its 6th edition, the _Territory_ program, dedicated to young dancers between the ages of 14 and 18, invites choreographers of unquestionable international relevance, giving the opportunity for several talented dance students to work and learn with renowned artists. Throughout its various editions, _Territory_ has already welcomed more than 70 young people from all over the country, from about 40 dance schools spread over more than 30 Portuguese cities. In 2023, 10 dancers were selected through dance education institutions in Alcobaça, Braga, Coimbra, Faro, Lisboa, Porto, Vale do Sousa and Vila Nova de Gaia.

Every year, EVC invites an acclaimed and an emerging choreographer to lead the program. Featuring the presentation of a new creation, a must-see reprise, and the premiere of a short film by a promising young director, this year the program is honored to welcome choreographer duo Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, choreographer Douglas Lee and director Mário J. Negrão.

The selected dancers will have the opportunity to benefit from the knowledge and aesthetic vision of the guest choreographers, in a professionalizing experience that promotes a diverse and inclusive outlook. Offering the Portuguese audience the possibility to watch, in some cases for the first time, international and contemporary works, in previous editions the program has already featured names such as Wayne McGregor, Marco Goecke, Marcos Morau or Alexander Ekman. 

With a professional background as dancers, León & Lightfoot are renowned choreographers who have been active for more than 30 years. Working together since 1989, they have created more than 60 pieces for the Nederlands Dans Theater. 

In _Territory VI_, the duo, who will be in Portugal for the first time, will rehearse and present a reprise of the reference play _Sad Case_, performed by the participants. Created in 1998, when Sol was pregnant with her daughter, _Sad Case_ is now celebrating 25 years of existence and is one of the main cornerstones of the choreographers' work.

Douglas Lee, who will create and present a new piece with the young dancers, graduated from the Royal Ballet School and was principal dancer at the Stuttgart Ballet, where he began choreographing, and later developed a career as a freelance artist.

_Territory VI_ will also have the collaboration of Mário J. Negrão, winner of the Territory Award | Estúdios Victor Córdon in the category of Best Portuguese Director at InShadow - Lisbon ScreenDance Festival 2022. With his own visual identity, the artist will present us his perspective on the program through a new short film to be projected in the show. 

After premiering at Teatro Nacional S. João (Porto), the show will wrap up the Millennium Festival ao Largo (Lisbon) and then head to Leiria, where the last performance will take place.

Now in its seventh edition, the Young Composers Program continues to promote a collaborative spirit and foster interactions between artists in creative processes, this time focusing on Music Composition, Writing and Choreography.

Throughout its existence, several composers, choreographers, writers, visual artists, directors, stage directors, instrumentalists, singers, dancers and actors/actresses have participated in the program. From here, many other collaborations have emerged between these artists, who, outside the context of the program, have started joint projects and consolidated their own professional careers.

Since the first edition of Young Composers, the program has developed a number of partnerships and collaborations with higher education institutions and groups of professionals at the start of their careers, including Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, Escola Superior de Dança, Escola Superior de Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha, Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo do Porto, the Concrète [Lab] Ensemble and Ar.Co - Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual.

Na sua sétima edição, o Programa Jovens Compositores continua a promover o espírito colaborativo e a potenciar interações entre artistas em processos de criação, focando-se desta vez nas áreas artísticas da Composição, Escrita e Coreografia.

Ao longo da sua existência, passaram pelos EVC inúmeros(as) compositores(as), coreógrafos(as), escritores(as), artistas plásticos(as), realizadores(as), encenadores(as), instrumentistas, cantores(as), bailarinos(as) e atores(atrizes). Daqui nasceram tantas outras colaborações entre estes intervenientes, que, já fora do contexto do programa, iniciaram projetos comuns e consolidaram carreiras profissionais individuais.

Têm também sido inúmeras as parcerias e colaborações com instituições de ensino superior e agrupamentos de profissionais em início de carreira, entre os quais a Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, a Escola Superior de Dança, a Escola Superior de Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha, a Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo do Porto, o Concrète [Lab] Ensemble e o Ar.Co - Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual.

This program promotes the collaborative spirit and enhances collaborations between composers and artists from other areas in the creative process. _Young Composers_ develops in three moments of experimentation and creation that culminate with a presentation of the materials created throughout the process.

In previous editions, artists such as Joana Craveiro, the duo Inês Barahona and Miguel Fragata, or writers such as Gonçalo M. Tavares have collaborated on the program. 

In 2023, _Young Composers_ will be coordinated by composer Luís Tinoco, with the collaboration of choreographer Victor Hugo Pontes, visual artist João Penalva and the Concrete [Lab] Ensemble, and the participation of students from Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML), Escola Superior de Dança (ESD), Escola Superior de Artes e Design (ESAD.CR) and Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (ESMAE).

At Home is a space dedicated to dance artists who, throughout the year, are invited to develop their projects at the EVC and make them their creative home. After having been introduced to the work of Miguel Moreira, João dos Santos Martins, Jonas & Lander, Marlene Monteiro Freitas and Victor Hugo Pontes in previous years, in 2024 we welcome Teresa Silva, who will show us her work in all its facets and different formats.

Over the course of a year, various projects by her or in collaboration with others will be developed at the EVC.

Teresa Silva (Lisbon, 1988) has dedicated herself to research, creation and performing in the fields of contemporary dance and performance since 2008. She sees dance as something that goes beyond the physical body, resulting in a work of attentiveness and sensitivity, as well as a multidisciplinary approach to movement.

The artist will bring to the EVC a series of very different proposals, in collaboration with Sara Anjo, David Marques, Kristina Norman, Mathieu Bouvier and Loic Touzé, among others.

_Oráculo expandido [“Expanded oracle”] - towards an investigation into practices of care, attention and connection_
Since 2017, Sara Anjo and Teresa Silva have been researching the potential of the body as a place of knowledge and revelation, and have designed workshops and created a piece based on the premise “can the body be an oracle?” There is a great diversity of people who share a curiosity for practices aimed at a holistic awareness of the body and _Oráculo expandido_ is an invitation to continue this research, opening it up to other people and expanding the research to other languages, practices and perspectives. 

_Fazer falar o fazer [“Making the doing speak”] - tools for creating speech about artistic practices_
This project, conceived and developed by David Marques and Teresa Silva, arises from the desire to make the work of their generation more visible and to bring the community together around the issues that move and engage them in their artistic practices. In this sense, the artists will develop different tools to encourage thinking, speaking and listening, and provide encounters between artists and between the artists and the audience.

_Carnation_
After collaborating on _Orchidelirium - An appetite for Abundance_, a project presented at the Venice Biennale (2022), Estonian visual artist Kristina Norman has partnered with Teresa Silva to conceive a new piece. This time, the artists use the red carnation as a symbol of power and freedom, seeking to bring into dialogue the culture and history of their respective countries.

_Ah! - Experimental sessions relating artistic to therapeutic practices_
In this project led by Teresa Silva, the artist aims to show how artistic practice generates states of attention, self-knowledge and transformation that intensify the human being’s potential. In these individual sessions, each person will be invited to look at what affects them in the present moment and, from there, work together on a sensitive and experimental path, intersecting the artistic and therapeutic fields.

To prepare the sessions, Teresa Silva draws on her research with Sara Anjo around the question "can the body be an oracle?" and finds inspiration in the work of artists such as Anna Halprin, Lygia Clark (Relational Objects), Alejandro Jodorowsky (Psychomagic) and Valentina Desideri (Fake Art Therapy), who have made and continue to make their artistic practice into places of affection, ritual and healing.


_Em Casa_ é um espaço destinado a criadores(as) da área da dança, propondo que ao longo de uma temporada desenvolvam o seu trabalho nos EVC. Depois da presença de Miguel Moreira, João dos Santos Martins, Jonas & Lander, Marlene Monteiro Freitas e Victor Hugo Pontes, em 2024 acolhemos as propostas de Teresa Silva, que nos dará a conhecer o seu trabalho nas suas várias facetas e dimensões.

Durante um ano de intervenção, vários programas da sua autoria ou em colaboração com convidados(as) habitarão os espaços dos EVC.

Teresa Silva (Lisboa, 1988) dedica-se à investigação, criação e interpretação nas áreas da dança contemporânea e da performance desde 2008. Vê a dança como algo que excede o corpo físico, o que se traduz num trabalho de atenção e sensibilidade, bem como numa abordagem multidisciplinar ao movimento.

A artista trará aos EVC um conjunto de propostas muito diferentes entre si, em colaboração com Sara Anjo, David Marques, Kristina Norman, Mathieu Bouvier, Loic Touzé, entre outros(as).

_Oráculo expandido - para uma investigação sobre práticas de cuidado, atenção e relação_
Sara Anjo e Teresa Silva andam desde 2017 interessadas em investigar as potencialidades do corpo enquanto lugar de conhecimento e de revelação, tendo já desenvolvido laboratórios e uma peça a partir da premissa «pode o corpo ser um oráculo?» Há uma grande diversidade de pessoas que partilham esta curiosidade pelo desenvolvimento de práticas que visam uma consciência holística do corpo e _Oráculo expandido_ é um convite a dar continuidade a esta investigação, abrindo-a a outras pessoas e expandindo a pesquisa para outras linguagens, práticas e perspetivas.

_Fazer falar o fazer - dispositivos para criar discurso sobre práticas artísticas_
Este projeto, pensado e desenvolvido por David Marques e Teresa Silva, surge da vontade de que o trabalho da sua geração tenha um lugar onde se inscrever e do desejo de juntar comunidade em torno das questões que os movem e ocupam nas suas práticas artísticas. Nesse sentido, os artistas irão desenvolver diferentes dispositivos para fomentar o pensamento, a palavra e a escuta, e proporcionar o encontro entre artistas e entre artistas e público.

Depois de terem colaborado em _Orchidelirium - An appetite for Abundance_, projeto apresentado na Bienal de Veneza (2022), a artista visual estoniana Kristina Norman junta-se a Teresa Silva para conceber uma nova criação para palco. Desta vez, as artistas partem do cravo vermelho enquanto símbolo de poder e liberdade, procurando pôr em diálogo a cultura e a história dos respetivos países de origem.

_Ah! - Sessões de experimentação entre práticas artísticas e terapêuticas_
Nesta proposta, liderada por Teresa Silva, a artista pretende evidenciar como a prática artística gera estados de atenção, autoconhecimento e transformação que intensificam as potencialidades do ser humano. Nestas sessões, que serão individuais, cada pessoa será convidada a escutar o que a afeta no momento presente para, a partir daí, trabalharem em conjunto num caminho sensível e experimental, intersectando os campos artístico e terapêutico.

Para preparar estas sessões, Teresa Silva apoia-se na investigação desenvolvida com Sara Anjo em torno da questão «pode o corpo ser um oráculo?» e encontra inspiração no trabalho de artistas como Anna Halprin, Lygia Clark (Objetos relacionais), Alejandro Jodorowsky (Psicomagia) e Valentina Desideri (Fake Art Therapy), que fizeram e fazem da sua prática artística lugares de afeto, ritual e cura.

Following Miguel Moreira, João dos Santos Martins and Jonas&Lander, this time EVC welcomes Marlene Monteiro Freitas to be EVC’s 2022 season AT HOME artist.

The program provides a continuous workspace, giving each artist the freedom to use the various facilities of the Estúdios for artistic creation projects and any other initiatives they develop.

She was born in São Vicente, Cabo Verde, where she was co-founder of the dance group Compass. She studied at P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels), at E.S.D. and at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Lisbon). She worked with Emmanuelle Huynn, Loic Touzé, Tânia Carvalho, Boris Charmatz, among others. She created the works _ÔSS_ (2022), _Ri te / Paris Intermission_, in collaboration with Israel Galván (2022), _Bacchae - Prelude to a purge_ (2017), _Jaguar_, in collaboration with Andreas Merk (2015), _Of ivory and flesh - statues also suffer_ (2014); _Paradise - private collection_ (2012-13); _(M)imosa_ (2011), a project developed with Trajal Harell, François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengolea; _Guintche _(2010); _A Seriedade do Animal_ (2009-10); _A Improbabilidade da Certeza_ (2006);_ Larvar_ (2006); and _Primeira Impressão_ (2005). The common denominator of these works is openness, impurity and intensity. In 2017, the Portuguese Society of Authors (SPA) awarded _Jaguar_ the prize for best choreography. In the same year, the artist was honored by the Government of Cape Verde for her cultural achievements. In 2018, the Venice Biennale awarded Marlene Monteiro Freitas the Silver Lion in the Dance category, and, in 2021, the artist was awarded the Chanel Next Prize in its first edition. In 2022, as part of the Portugal-France Crossed Season, the Festival d'Automne à Paris dedicates a cycle to the artist's work, presenting a vast retrospective and two new creations. She is co-founder of P.OR.K, a production structure based in Lisbon, and has an ongoing collaboration with O Espaço do Tempo (PT).

Celebrating 20 years since he began his artistic path, Victor Hugo Pontes is the artist invited to be _At Home_ in 2023. It will be a year of commemoration in which EVC will be the choreographer's temporary home. Here, new works of his will be conceived, and encounters with various formats will be held, through various ways of approaching and promoting a meaningful reflection about his path.

This is a program dedicated to migrant communities living in Portugal. Based on the study of their respective cultures, we propose creating materials and art works that can be shared and promote public interaction. Despite the relative physical proximity of all of us living here, these are communities that often remain on the fringes of society, which makes them potential targets for exclusion and social discrimination as a result of such isolation.

The program, which involves cyclically choosing a target country, aims to highlight that country's culture through the gaze of a dance creator. In its first edition, Iran was chosen as the country of focus. To make this challenging undertaking a reality, we invited choreographer Clara Andermatt, who will create a piece founded in the cultural heritage of Iran, and which is to be developed in close contact with the Iranian community in Portugal. With the first phase of the project’s development having already started in 2023, the creative process will be carried out in 2024 and the premiere will happen in January 2025, to be followed by other scheduled presentations of the new work. 

Also part of the program is an initiative called Ir à escola [“reaching out the schools”], which aims to make the culture and life situations of people from Iran known to youth school groups across the country in the form of talks and short performances.

We believe that this way of “introducing and letting people in” the cultural heritage of another country, developed in close connection with its immigrant community in our country, can actively contribute to a stronger presence of Other Worlds in Portugal.

Apesar da proximidade geográfica, estas são comunidades que muitas vezes permanecem à margem da vivência da restante comunidade local, o que as torna, por força desse isolamento, potenciais focos de exclusão e alvos de preconceito social.

O programa, que elege ciclicamente um país-alvo, pretende, ao longo da sua duração, dar destaque à cultura desse país através do olhar de um(a) criador(a) da área da dança. Na sua primeira edição, o Irão será o país em foco. Para concretizar este desafiante empreendimento, contaremos com a direção da coreógrafa Clara Andermatt na criação de um espetáculo cuja génese será o património cultural daquele país, elaborado em estreita ligação com a comunidade iraniana residente em Portugal. Tendo uma primeira fase de preparação já sido iniciada em 2023, o processo de criação decorrerá em 2024 e a estreia terá lugar em janeiro do ano seguinte, à qual se seguirão outras apresentações públicas do espetáculo. 

Faz também parte do programa a iniciativa _Ir à escola_, que pretende dar a conhecer, em formato de conversas e pequenas performances, a cultura e as realidade vividas por pessoas iranianas junto de comunidades escolares juvenis em Portugal.
 
Acreditamos que esta forma de «dar a conhecer e dar a habitar», partindo do património cultural de um país que não é o nosso mas que se concretiza em estreita ligação com a sua comunidade imigrante em território nacional, pode contribuir ativamente para uma presença mais plena de Outros Mundos em Portugal.

Artist residencies network that promotes works by artists from Portuguese-speaking countries and their circulation between Africa and Portugal. The artists taking part in the first edition come from Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Angola, Cape Verde and Portugal.

Over the course of 5 weeks, these artists will develop collaborative work in the several artist residencies taking place in the cities of Lisbon, Porto, Viseu and Guimarães. The program also includes showcases presenting the work developed in each residency, talks, dance workshops taught by the guest artists, where they'll share dances from their countries of origin, and interactions with local artists. This year’s edition of the program wraps up in Maputo with a final public presentation.


Rede de Residências que promove a criação e a circulação de artistas dos países de Língua Portuguesa, entre África e Portugal. Os(as) artistas participantes na primeira edição são provenientes de Moçambique, São Tomé e Príncipe, Angola, Cabo Verde e Portugal.

Ao longo de 5 semanas, estes(as) artistas desenvolvem trabalho de criação em colaboração nas residências artísticas programadas para Lisboa, Porto, Viseu e Guimarães. Paralelamente à criação, serão também promovidas mostras de resultados, conversas, workshops de danças dos países de proveniência dos(as) artistas convidados(as) e interações com artistas locais. O programa termina em Maputo com a apresentação pública do trabalho realizado ao longo das residências.

A series of talks focusing on the situations of migrant communities living in Portugal and the role of culture in their path to become fully integrated into society. This year, the program will unfold over three weeks, in the form of three talks that will reveal different realities that are part of our society but are not properly acknowledged.

##### “What good is it to know the past without acknowledging the present, thus compromising possibilities for the future? In recent years we have witnessed, both in politics and in dance, the celebration of a historical systematization without critical positioning and filtered by a hierarchy of values that often prevents the acknowledgement of the diverse and vague contemporaneity.

##### Cultures evolve thanks to migrant communities and various forms of knowledge. Who was Herculano Mercês? Who sewed Almada’s clothes? How many steps took someone who couldn't take steps? These questions are just as important as: When was the last time you saw someone dancing an Iranian dance? Wasn't it yesterday, right next door to your house?

##### Invited by Estúdios Victor Córdon, Teatro Praga proposes the cycle 'Pari passu', dedicated to the acknowledgement of migrant artists and their movement practices which, although present in the public space, are still made invisible by multiple social factors. ‘Pari passu’ finds in the cultural manifestation in its many forms the shaping of a future. Against the mythification of the past, we call for the valorization of other presents.”

**Contemporary dance(s) - diaspora and Afro-descendants in the Portuguese artistic context**

On this day dedicated to dialogue at EVC, we will hear from African and African descent whom we have invited to share with us their experiences and reflections on their artistic, research and pedagogical practices, as well as on the presence of black people and narratives from the African diaspora in the context of contemporary dance in Portugal. Here, 'contemporary dance' is understood as a concept that encompasses dances of contemporaneity, such as street dances, clubbing and social dances, whose presence in cultural institutions and academic contexts is a subject for debate.

Thus, we intend to raise questions around the documentation, transmission, dissemination and support of these contemporary dances, and to do so with the people who practice them - and through their narratives - in spaces of visibility. 

What dances from the African diaspora remain in Portugal, and how are they being transformed? What relationships are possible between street dances, social dances and academic dances in an institutional system of artistic education and production? 

What role can dance play in a broader reflection on Portugal's relationship with the countries it colonized?

Now in its second edition, Season Partners establishes partnerships with independent artistic production structures, for one or more seasons, to carry out projects of common interest.

The program, which has so far developed projects in collaboration with Associação Parasita, Ordem do O and the online portal Coffeepaste, expands the space dedicated to the artistic practices and research of the artistic community, fostering the sharing of responsibility in action and encouraging cooperation. The result of a partnership between Estúdios Victor Córdon and Camões – Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo, Bantu is a new work by choreographer Victor Hugo Pontes and features both Portuguese and Mozambican performers. 

Bantu premiered at TNSJ (Porto) last October, and then went on a national and international tour. In January 2024, the second part of the tour began, with the first presentation of the piece taking place in Lisbon, at The National Opera House of Portugal (TNSC), after which it will travel across the country.

As Portugal celebrates in 2024 the 50th anniversary of the April 25 Revolution, the latest creation by Victor Hugo Pontes will be staged at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos. At the origin of _Bantu_, there was an invitation addressed to Victor Hugo Pontes by Estúdios Victor Córdon and Camões - Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo, and the dance piece features both Portuguese and Mozambican performers.

Having had its absolute premiere at Teatro Nacional São João in Porto last October, the piece is now touring the country, having already been performed in Famalicão, Viseu and Aveiro. After traveling to Mozambique, where it was presented at KIKANI, _Bantu_ will arrive in the Portuguese capital next January.

"From the language we speak, we see the world that is ours. However, from the different geographies to which we belong - whether in a country or a theater - we have different perspectives of the same world, so we can't speak the same language, see the same things or get to the same places. _Bantu_ takes the opposite route and goes in search of a language stripped of words, a language transformed into sharing and identification: it's not a universal language, it's a possible language. _Bantu_ is a path yet to be traced, and the route is taken between two countries with complex affinities and profound memories of each other." ⎯ Victor Hugo Pontes, 2023

Estúdios Victor Córdon and Camões - Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo are partners in a programme that spans over three seasons and that aims to build bridges between the two countries and enable the circulation and internationalization of dance projects.
