Be Dias (they/their, she/her, 1995, France) is a queer artist based in Porto. They were born in Santa Maria da Feira, influenced by the sense of community inherent in street dance and by the world of cabaret, both of which propelled their artistic career. They research practices exploring subversion, hybridity, celebration, resistance, and liberation to reflect on their own experience of growing up in a patriarchal, heteronormative, Catholic, binary, and capitalist Portuguese society. They have created MUSCULUS (2019) and NEON 80 (2021), having been nominated for Prémio Autores ’22 for best performer. They are currently on tour with the autobiographical project RE.SET a metaphor for my queer emancipation (2025), co-produced by Teatro Viriato, DDD — Festival Dias da Dança, Teatro-Cine Pombal, and Cineteatro Louletano. They highlight collaborations with Companhia Olga Roriz, Maurícia | Neves, Tamara Cubas, André Uerba, Diana de Sousa, and Teatro do Mar. A dance graduate of ESD, they are often invited to conduct workshops.
