João Quinteiro starts his music studies in the Music Conservatory of Viseu. He takes the bachelor degree in Composition in the University of Aveiro where he studies with João Pedro Oliveira, Isabel Soveral annd Evgueni Zouldikine. After finishing the bachelor degree he takes simultaneously a Masters in Philosophy, specialising in Aesthetics in FCSH - New University of Lisbon and a Masters in Composition in the University of Aveiro. Studied with composer Emmanuel Nunes attending seminars in Gulbenkian Foundation and in Casa da Música in Porto and with Beat Furrer at Kunstuniversiät in Graz. He participated in masterclasses, seminars and conferences with composers Brian Farneyhough, Helmut Lachenmann and Pierluigi Billone. Presently he is working on his PhD project in Artistic Studies - Art and Mediations where he was awarded the FCT scholarship. In this context he became an integrated researcher of CESEM - FCSH in New University of Lisbon in collaboration with the Kunstuniversität Graz and the Fondazione Archivio Luigi Nono, in Venice under the supervision of Professor Paula Gomes Ribeiro and Composer Beat Furrer. Since 2015 he teaches Composition Analysis and Techniques, Acoustics, Contemporary Music Ensemble in Ourearte - Ourems Art and Music School. Since 2019 he teaches Music Theory and Analysis, Sound Physics and Music History in Canto Firme in Tomar. Since 2015 he participates regularly as speaker in open sessions, conferences and seminars about contemporary composition techniques and music aesthetics. Since 2017 he is in the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Association of Composers, where he has dedicated particularly to developing projects that promote vanguard music in Portugal with projects as MUSIVUS, project IpC - interpreters for composers and CROMA - Contemporary Music Cycle of Oeiras. In 2022 he started the Concrète [Lab] Ensemble, of which he is the resident conductor. He regularly collaborates with soloists and performers being of particular importance Henrique Portovedo (saxophone), André Correia (saxophone), Marco Fernandes (percussion), Fernando Brites (accordion), Sinem Tas (film director) and Teresa Doblinger (choreographer). In 2015 he won the 1st prize in the A category of the 2nd International Composition Competition GMCL / Jorge Peixinho. His music has been performed, commissioned and recorde by Portuguese formations and interpreters as the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Lisbon Ensemble 20/21, GMCL - Contemporary Music Group of Lisbon, the OpuSpiritum Ensemble, Duo Sigma, Astrus Duo and international groups as the Mise-en Ensemble (NY) and the Vertixe Sonora (Galicia).
