Sara Schürmann holds a master’s degree in dance teaching from Escola Superior de Dança — IPL and is currently pursuing her PhD in Performing Arts and Arts of the Moving Image at Faculdade de Belas-Artes — Universidade de Lisboa. Her path is rooted in gesture and listening and covers teaching, creation, and research—an active field where practice and thought coexist in motion.
She has taught classical and contemporary dance techniques at Escola Superior de Dança (IPL), Escola Luís António Verney, and Estúdios Victor Córdon. Additionally, she provides private instruction, mainly helping dancers prepare for auditions and competitions. She is also a visiting teacher at various national and international schools and programs, among them Conservatorio Superior de Danza María de Ávila, Margarida Belo Costa’s project DOOR, Inês Pedruco’s AZA program, Escola de Ballet do Porto, Estúdio 13, Passos de Dança, Estufa — Plataforma Cultural, and Conservatório de Dança — Dancespot. In past years, she was director of education at Profissional Ballet School of Porto.
She has collaborated as a rehearsal and choreography assistant as part of the EVC’s Territory Program (editions VII and VIII), working side by side with creators such as Jermaine Spivey, Nico Monaco, and Nicole Kohlmann.
As a choreographer, she has created several pieces that evoke plural imaginaries. Among her works, she highlights Never Seem to Find the Time, Ubiquitous Flutter, Behind me. The Monster., Tarefa de Poeta, Guerra e Paz, and Trabalho de menino (the latter two are co-creations). At an international level, she has presented Synergie at Centre Culturel Blaise Senghor (Senegal). In a collaborative context, she highlights the pieces Expressão dos Destemidos, Arte & Liberdade, and Motus Inclusive.
