Sara Schürmann began her career in Escola de Dança Clara Leão and in Academia de Dança Annarella Sanchez. With a master’s degree in Dance Teaching from Escola Superior de Dança — IPL, Sara has developed work as a performer, choreographer, and teacher.
She is currently a professor of contemporary dance technique at Escola Superior de Dança — IPL and a professor of choreographic composition and classical and contemporary repertoire at Escola Luís António Verney. In past years, she was director of education at Escola Profissional Ballet School of Porto, where she taught classical dance technique and contemporary dance technique.
She is a visiting teacher at various national schools, among them Estúdio 13 (Azores), Passos de Dança (Trofa and Póvoa de Varzim), Estufa Plataforma Cultural (Torres Vedras), and Conservatório de Dança — Dancespot (Lisbon). At an international level, Sara works in partnership with Ballet Cristina Rocha and with Fendafor Festival — Festival de Dança de Fortaleza, and she is the organizer of Curso Internacional de Dança PT-BR.
As a choreographer, she highlights her pieces Ubiquitous Flutter, presented at Teatro Helena Sá e Costa (ESMAE), in Porto, Behind me. The Monster, presented at Teatro Sá da Bandeira, also in Porto, and A Queda dos Anjos, presented at Teatro Helena Sá e Costa (ESMAE).
