Diogo Igor Amaral

Artists

Maputo, Mozambique, 1996.

Diogo Igor Amaral's artistic expression is dance. His career began in 2013, when he started practicing street dance for fun. That same year, he joined two dance groups in Maputo, namely Grupo Radical and Grupo Maquinista. With these experiences, he had the opportunity to deepen his interest in the field, having developed a passion for traditional Mozambican dance, which has become his main area of research.

In 2018, he joined Mono, a cultural association, where he studied ballet, jazz, contemporary and traditional dance for two years. It was at this time that he got more involved in contemporary dance, realizing that he could express everything he thought and felt through movement, on a stage. With this in mind, he began to take part in workshops with national and international dance professionals, such as Idio Chichava, Horácio Macuacua, Lulu Sala, Edvaldo Ernesto, Irmelin Robertsen (Norway), Sonya Dahle (Norway), Juliane Soli (Norway), José Agudo, Allyne Dance, Laura Aris, German Jauregui, Anita Diaz Otero, Kira Kirsch, Marta Coronado, Joe Alegado, Andrew Harwood, Alexander Vantournhout.

In 2022, he went to the Impulstanz Festival (Vienna) as a participant of Dance Web Project. He has performed at festivals KINANI (Mozambique) and ONE DANCE WEEK (Bulgaria). As a dancer, Diogo is inspired by the interactions and cultural differences that exist in the more traditionalist cultures around the world.
