Beatriz, a dancer, choreographer, and teacher, was born in Póvoa de Varzim in 1995. She began dancing at Royal Academy of Dance and she completed her formal dance training at Escola de Dança do Conservatório Nacional. Later, she completed the Elite Training Programme at the Budapest Dance Theatre and trained at the FOR Dance Theatre, directed by choreographer Olga Roriz. She is a sociology graduate from ISCTE-IUL and she obtained a postgraduate degree in contemporary dance from ESMAE. Finally, she received a scholarship to participate in Centre national de la danse’s Camping, in Paris, in 2020.
She has worked with artists such as Olga Roriz, Renato Zanella, Jérôme Bel, Raimund Hoghe, Mafalda Deville, Elisabeth Lambeck, Olatz De Andrés, Inês Jacques, Mão Morta, São Castro and António Cabrita, Sílvia Real, Francisco Camacho, Né Barros, Jonas & Lander, and Joana Magalhães. Her first creation as a choreographer was VADO: solo sobre as coisas vazias (2018), which premiered at the XX Cerveira International Art Biennial. This was followed by the solo NINA, presented at Serralves em Festa 2019 and at Curtas de Dança 2020. In 2021, she created Self for the Interferências Festival, also presented at the Corpo + Cidade/DDD in October 2022. She develops community-related work, dealing especially with children and young people, and she often organizes workshops and creative sessions for schools and associations. She worked as an artistic instructor for Projeto GruA — Grupo de Autonomia, developed by ASAS — Associação de Solidariedade de Santo Tirso.
Her creation O que é um problema? (2023) asks young people about their concerns, in a performance that combines dance, live music, and visual arts and which has been staged in several Portuguese cities, such as Oporto, Lisbon, Loulé, and Guimarães. Vanishing, her most recent creation, co-created with Bruno Senune, premiered in April 2024.
