Hélio Santos is a dancer, teacher and choreographer. Born in Cape Verde, he studied contemporary dance at c.e.m - centro em movimento (Lisbon) and at P.A.R.T.S - The Performing Arts Research and Training Studio (Brussels), with a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
He grew up dancing traditional African dances and was part of the first generation of teachers who showed Kizomba dance to the rest of the world. Concurrently, he began to explore his expression in contemporary art.
As a contemporary dance choreographer, he created the pieces Entrevistas, Living Through, Cântico dos Cânticos and Canoa. He was also the main character in the films Fertilize - Life as it Begins and The Black Bird Flying. He has worked as a performer in pieces by numerous national and international choreographers.
He believes that there is an infinite creative energy that resides in each of us and that can help us to unblock body and behavioral patterns - and, above all, to embrace life with a more harmonious rhythm.
