VAGAR Associação Cultural was created in March 2008, with the aim of carrying out research and creation projects in the field of arts. In the same year, it accompanied Márcia Lança in the tour of her solo Dos joelhos para baixo, which was awarded first prize in CCB's Jovens Artistas Jovens Program. Since then, it has produced many pieces, both in its own name and in coproduction with other structures. Among them are MORNING SUN (2009), directed by Márcia Lança and cocreated with João Calixto; Trompe le Monde (2011), by Márcia Lança & Nuno Lucas; O Desejo Ignorante (2011), by Márcia Lança, in collaboration with Aniol Busquets (performance) and Tiago Hespanha (video); Calma Baby, a musical performance project; 9 Possible Portraits (2013), by Márcia Lança and Ana Rita Teodoro; Evidências Suficientes para a Não Coerência do Mundo (2014), a collective creation signed by Márcia Lança; Happiness and Misery (2014), by Márcia Lança in partnership with Joana Pupo and João Calixto, presented at the Latvian National Theatre; and NOME, cocreated by Carolina Campos & Márcia Lança, presented in Portugal, Spain, Brazil, and Argentina.
In 2012, in partnership with the association Fosso de Orquestra, it supported João Calixto and Márcia Lança's research and creation project Mecânica, which resulted in the performances Mecânica 1 and Mecânica 2. In the same year, it participated in the project DESCAMPADO with choreographers Ibon Salvador, Luciana Chiegerati, Sílvia Pinto Coelho, and Márcia Lança. VAGAR has also produced two performances for children: Por Esse Mundo Fora (2016), by Nuno Lucas and Márcia Lança, presented in France, Portugal, and Spain; and Dentro do Coração (2019), which premiered at Teatro LU.CA, in Lisbon.
