Expert on culture and development

Joris Janssens is an expert with extensive experience in strategic research and development projects and public policy advice on culture, both in Belgium and elsewhere. Since 2019, he has been working at IDEA Consult in the areas of culture, leisure and tourism, having previously been director of research and development at Kunstenpunt and director of VTI, the Flemish Performing Arts Institute. He was a collaborator at KULeuven, where he received his PhD in Germanic Languages and Literatures in 2004. His research and projects focus on various aspects of the arts ecosystem in Brussels and beyond: the international dimension of the arts, the position of artists, local and international cultural policy, arts and urban development, and cultural diversity. His recent projects include (Re)framing the International, a research and development trajectory on new ways of working internationally, and Landscape Sketch for the Arts in Flanders, an analysis of the current situation of professional art work. International projects include Travelogue, a mapping of performing arts mobility in Europe and RESHAPE, a research and development trajectory exploring new working models for the arts ecosystem.
