Catarina Branco is a choreographer who seeks to foster close relationships between artists, communities and audiences.
She is interested in portraying and documenting stories through choreography as a form of resistance, and in reflecting on the perception of bodies within social and political contexts, asserting the right of the body to exist in freedom, with dignity and without constraints.
She holds a Master’s degree in Choreographic Creation and Professional Practices from the Escola Superior de Dança in Lisbon (2024), where she studied under Joana Von Mayer Trindade, Rafael Alvarez, Victor Hugo Pontes, Né Barros, André Lepecki, Ângelo Cid Neto, Tiago Cadete, Ana Trincão and Amélia Bentes. She holds a degree in architecture from ESAP (2016). Her training also includes the FAICC programme at the Centro Coreográfico Instável (2020) and the Dance course at the Institute of Arts Barcelona (2021).
As a performer, she participated in a hora em que não sabíamos nada uns dos outros (2023) by Olga Roriz and in Dança, Onde Estás? (2024) by Né Barros, to mark the 92nd anniversary of the Teatro Municipal do Porto.
As a choreographer, she created reCoVered2020 (2021), CARLOS (2022), não é amor (2024) and que dia é hoje? (2025). She directed sobre os que voam (2025), a collaborative production with the migrant community of Bonfim, co-produced with Cultura em Expansão.
