Ana Caetano was born in 1970. She lives and works in Lisbon. She began her artistic path in contemporary dance and, later, she graduated in graphic design (from IADE), painting (from SNBA), and visual arts (from Ar.Co). She danced with various dance companies (Ballet Gulbenkian, Centre choréographique national de Grenoble) and under the direction of various choreographers in occasional projects, both in Portugal and abroad, among them Francisco Camacho, Jean-Claude Gallotta, Olga Roriz, Paulo Ribeiro, Bruno Cochat, Joanne Leighton, and Beatriz Valentim.
In the past years, she has developed visual work, where the body has become a fundamental tool. She seeks demanding physical challenges that require endurance, she tests her limits, and she works on drawing at the scale of the body. She is interested in new ways of making and in the intersection of artistic practices. In 2024, she developed the project Desenho.Música.Corpo, whose performative component has been presented in several artistic and cultural spaces (such as schools, festivals, theaters, and galleries). The drawings resulting from this project were shown in an individual exhibition at Paços — Galeria Municipal de Torres Vedras and at Avenidas — Um Teatro em Cada Bairro.
She participated in various collective exhibitions, among which, most recently, do arquivo do acervo (2023), Paradise Found, a_riscar, and um gesto, todos os desenhos (2024). Her work is included in the collections of Fernando Figueiredo Ribeiro, Fundação Carmona e Costa, and Casa Santos Lima.
