Performer and Choreographer
Based in Portugal, the Brazilian performer and choreographer maintains connections and ties with her home city, São Paulo, where she obtained a degree in Communication and Arts of the Body (PUCSP). Later, in Amsterdam, she completed a master's degree in the DAS Choreography program (AHK, NL) with a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
Her works include Mandíbula (2018) and Égua (2017), in collaboration with artist Patricia Bergantin. Currently, she is working on the trilogy of pieces Bestiário Pink, which comprises the solos Hidebehind (2018), Glimpse (2020) and Calor (2022). She is a dance teacher at Fórum Dança (Lisboa) since 2019 and has made it a space for experimentation and exchange of her practice and artistic research with other artists and people who show interest.
In her most recent artistic practice, Josefa Pereira orbits around diverse and non-linear curiosities that come together drawn by interests such as monstrosity and fabulation. From the questions "What to do?", "With what do we do it?", and "How to do it?" emerges a strong recourse to plasticity as a form of engagement between things-materials in which the gesture appears as ethics that sustains a given occurrence.
