Simão Costa is a pianista, composer, and intermedia artist. SOUND is the main object of his art making. He sees it as plastic, tangible and physical material, exploring it in its musical, phenomenological, perceptive, visual and cultural dimensions.
He has been developing his authorial career in composition, improvisation, code, exhibitions / installations, circuit bending, and data sonorisation as solo artist and in collaboration with other musicians, visual artists, performers, actors, directors, dancers and choreographers.
A trained pianist, he graduated from the National Conservatory in 1998, scoring 20 out of 20, and went on to Escola Superior de Música and the Codarts University in Rotterdam.
He integrates the pianist aspect, sometimes central, sometimes peripheral, in all his projects. He embraces music composition, digital and interactive visual arts in a multidisciplinary approach with a strong relationship with other artistic fields, also exploring the relationship between art, science and technology.
