With the aim of supporting independent artistic creation, this program hosts artists and collectives working in the field of dance or in areas of artistic intersection, both national and international, for a maximum period of two weeks.

Applications are accepted continuously throughout the year, and residencies are scheduled in our calendar on a first-come, first-served basis. Since their beginnings, the EVC have been a space where multiple languages coexist, directly meeting the needs of the artistic community.


This new show follows on from work developed around the idea of "The disappearance of the body", a research project that has recently guided Mário Afonso's projects, in his shows _Framework_ (2022) and _vaziopleno_ (2023), and that in 2024 ended up being the title of master's thesis. This show involves organising materials around the appearance, encounter, and disappearance of the body, with the aim of integrating and reflecting on human relationships, currently determined by extreme technological mediation.

Ermo, a título provisório — Mário Afonso

_Bixa Bixo_ is an immersive show that is part of the research project "Kalunga: For a Black and queer ecology" developed by Coletivo Afrontosas. With the aim of producing artistic knowledge, the show combines new technologies, dance and performance based on an ecocriticism that calls for a rethinking of what we call "nature".

**Tony Omolu** – Hybrid theatre and dance artist, researcher of pre-expressive practices. 

**Diego Candido (DIDI)** – Transdisciplinary artist, DJ and researcher, focusing on (re)territorialisation, activism and Afro-diasporic culture in Portugal.

Bixa Bixo ― Coletivo Afrontosas

For her new piece for a young audience (aged 3+) _PAPUSI_ , which is set to premiere in November 2026, Jill Crovisier would like to explore the relationship between objects connected to the heritage of marionette craft and contemporary dance. 

In this contemporary puppetry/dance piece for two performers, the choreographer will develop a story inspired by a traditional tale, exploring the notions of transformation and diversity. 

From small finger puppets to three dimensional moving objects and human bodies, _PAPUSI_ will offer a surprising encounter and gently remind us that everything has its own value and meaningful story simply by existing.

_Based on the ideas of fabulation and trans-corporeality as central concepts, the artistic practices I propose explore capacities of the body that we have forgotten, ignored or wish to relearn. These are practices that split the body we know in order to make way for other corporealities beyond the humanity fabricated by colonial modernity. How does choreography allow us to fabulate with these experiences and invite the audience to co-feel with them?_

_Action Trace_ combines contemporary dance and visual arts, exploring the body as an instrument of creation. Two performers investigate how gestures and movements leave visual traces, transforming the ephemeral nature of action into visible matter.

_This is only about Dance, ou Cartas para a Nuvem_ is a multidisciplinary show that explores the intersection between dance, body, and real and artificial memory. It concludes a triptych that Hugo Cabral Mendes began in 2024 entitled _Cartas para a Nuvem_, which is divided into three parts:

The triptych _Cartas para a Nuvem_ seeks to immortalise ephemeral art by creating a shared memory between audience and performers, where the audience is invited to participate in the work through a cloud where the memory of the show can be immortalised. We immortalise the moment through three foundations: physical, analogue, and digital. Three different qualities: invisible, imaginary, and palpable. Three different states: gaseous, liquid, and solid. We merge: what our eyes want to remember, what our hearts want to keep, and what our skin will not forget.

_This is only about Dance_ comes from all the dances that have been lost, whether because the choreography or the moment have been merely forgotten, or through the years of violence from colonialism and imperialism that wiped out many dances, traditions, and memories. It comes from all the improvisations that have ever been done and that remain only in the memory of those who saw them and those who did them. Whether from the dances of idols and references that, in a memory that does not belong to us and is passed on to us, meets our imagination. Whether from the night dances that, in the smiles and glances that danced them, were forgotten in their apotheosis of intoxication of the now. Whether from the dances of life that many hearts and memories have taken from us.
   
_Cartas para a Nuvem_ exists in the search for how to immortalise something that only exists because it cannot be immortalised. The place where one lives in peace with the impermanence of experiencing oblivion. A break with the past, a flaw in the programming or reception of the signals that make us exist in our solitude of thought and our intimacy with a future of ephemeralities and nows that only exist at the speed of sunlight.

We live in an era where attention is fragmented and validation boils down to a click; we inhabit and find ourselves diving deep into ourselves through the solitude of the screen, leaving memories forever recorded in the Cloud.

The public is invited to film and photograph the act of ideas being transformed into sharing, and the experience comes to an end in the invisible tangle of glances and synapses that intersect in hearts, pierced by the exchange of what is born in the most intimate places within us — the DREAM —, participating in the creation of a collective memory in this invisible place, leaving a record of their letters to the cloud, that is, sharing in a cloud/drive the experiences and moments that one day, in the ephemerality of dance, we will forget.

Dance dies when the last spectator and the last performer die. In this way, through the digital cloud, we are able to immortalise dance, immortalising the moment of direct exchange between the work and the audience.

These bodies are not just their bodies. They are the bodies of all the dances that have already died out. Dance is an ephemeral being on the verge of extinction. These bodies are not just their bodies. They are the bodies of Humanity.

This show, _This is only about Dance, ou Cartas para a Nuvem_, concludes the triptych and is an attempt to reconcile and challenge the physical and digital worlds, tradition and innovation, ephemerality and eternity.

I-HÓN appears as a solo piece that straddles the boundary between the comic and the tragic, the intimate and the political. It is a performative reflection on what persists and what transforms when the body attempts to dance between worlds, languages, and memories.

_Ah! ― artistic practice as a tool for transformation_ is a project by Teresa Silva in artistic residency that transforms the studio into a place of introspection and encounter. In individual sessions, each participant is invited to listen and become aware of what affects them in the present moment. From there, Teresa creates a dramaturgy for the encounter, proposing and guiding somatic practices, sensory exercises, and symbolic actions that are based on her experience in the field of performing arts and that aim to generate states of attention, self-knowledge, and transformation.

To guide these sessions, the artist draws on her research into the oracular body, her studies in Expressive Arts Therapy, Trauma, and Embodiment (master's degree in progress in EC-EXATT®), as well as on the work of artists such as Anna Halprin, Lygia Clark, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and Valentina Desideri, who have made and continue to make her artistic practice a place of affection, ritual, and healing.

_Feito à Mão_ is a contemporary dance project that explores and activates ways of reconnecting with wild nature — each person’s inner life and intrinsic wisdom. It will emerge from a space of research into what it means to belong to life, recognizing the interdependence that sustains all existence.

Inspired by John Stanford's work _The Invisible Partners_, this creation appears as a provocation to rethink human bonds. Through the concept of the "invisible partner", an inner figure projected onto the other, the artists design a guide that allows them to explore the way we relate to what we ignore about ourselves.

_RUA_ is inspired by James Joyce's _Ulysses_ and is based on the idea of a daily journey, both external and internal. The CiM – Companhia de Dança performers, with and without disabilities, transform themselves into characters that travel the urban space, but also the symbolic space of their own memories, concerns and desires.

_ENCRUZA_ explores Yorùbá metaphysics as an epistemological device in Afro-Brazilian dance. Based on Exu, the work constructs scenic-ontological strongholds that combine body, diaspora and memory, bringing myth and contemporaneity into dialogue in choreographic production.

_Por Assim Dizer_ is a living portrait of an intimate process of self-construction. It gives rise to a premeditated improvisation that establishes, destroys, and recomposes body and language. In a white desert, shapes emerge and transform under a fixed gaze that invites us to reconsider what we took for granted. In the space where expression finds meaning, what is revealed, what is obscured, and what remains unsaid?

Skiagrafia: Uma Fantasmática do Corpo is a performative installation created by **AnaVitória**, inspired by the work Teatro de Sombras by Portuguese visual artist Lourdes Castro (1930–2022), and in conceptual and aesthetic dialogue with the works of Ana Vieira (1940–2016) and Helena Almeida (1934–2018). This project addresses themes such as shadows, the presence of absence, and female invisibility, creating a poetic space that moves between the intimate and the universal.

Skiagrafia: Uma Fantasmática do Corpo ― AnaVitória

_ANDAR DORMIR COMER FALAR_ (WALK SLEEP EAT SPEAK) is a “performance experience” by Apneia Colectiva that explores everyday actions — walking, sleeping, eating, speaking — as a starting point for subverting social and personal conditioning. Through psychophysical and sensory practices, the project questions the norms of daily life, proposing new ways of being and creating. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the artists explore different states of consciousness, nonverbal communication, and the intimate relationship between body and space, creating an immersive environment that expands perception and invites the audience to a transformative experience.

This performance features Ana Trincão, Andresa Soares, Elizabete Francisca, Joana Levi, Julia Salem, and Tiago Gandra.

Andar Dormir Comer Falar ― Apneia Coletiva

A performance disguised as a slumber party. It explores heartbreak — understood not only as romantic heartache, but as a metaphor for the frustration that defines our times. In an informal setting, audience and performers share the stage in a flow of conversation, improvisation, and vulnerability. Each performance is unique: an invitation to take risks and find the courage to experiment through imperfection.

A vibrant duet by Cuban-born Abel Rojo and Danish artist Nikoline Due, _Riders_ blends improvisation, play, and presence into a journey that is never the same twice. Moving with and against each other — physically, vocally, and emotionally —, the performers carve a shared path through rhythm, risk, and connection.

_O Sagrado em Nós_ is a vision for the future, blending theatrical dance and rituals, born from listening to the daily rhythms of work and social life, to the repeated gestures, songs and rhythms within the female collective. Ancestral practices bring together body-voice-community. Exploring ritual — not the original form, but what remains in the body through cycles, pauses and persistence — connects human beings to ancestrality and restores the sacred within us.

O Sagrado em Nós ― Cristina Benedita & Miriam Freitas

_MUDBODY_ dives into a physical and sensory realm where bodies gradually lose their usual shape. Amidst instability, tension and vulnerability, three performers construct a collective organism in a state of constant transformation. Through a choreographic language marked by repetition, breath and instinctive impulses, the piece evokes organic images, nocturnal creatures and ambiguous landscapes, offering an atmospheric experience that oscillates between fragility and survival.

MUDBODY ― Ana Moreno

_All in Gravity_ is a contemporary dance piece featuring six performers that celebrates the cycle of life through movement, exploring the body’s transformation, renewal, weight, care and vulnerability. Inspired by the work of Steve Paxton, this project is developed through a collaborative process in which each performer contributes with their own physical uniqueness, giving rise to a dynamic visual landscape marked by forces, balancing acts and interdependencies, in a continuous interplay where “what rises falls, and what falls rises”.

Yet illness and death have become taboos, so as not to disrupt the rhythm of our meritocratic society. The body constitutes a field of tension between idealised “normality” and the experience of disability, since society cannot bear to confront its own fragility. But don’t we all harbour health and illness within us, albeit to varying degrees?

This project is directed by Helena Dawin and co-created by Sara Zita Correia, Nuno Moniz, Andrew Nimmo and Marta Ramos.

**Helena Dawin**, who holds a Master’s degree in literature and psychology, trained in dance at Tanzfabrik Berlin and at Forum Dança. She has worked with the João Garcia Miguel Company, Jolika Sudermann and Britta Pudelko. She co-created _Now-here-land_, _Contratempo_ and _Vestígios de Azul_, weaving together text, music and dance.

**Sara Zita Correia** holds a degree in dance and is a graduate of the PEPCC programme at Forum Dança. She has worked with Gustavo Ciríaco, Rafael Alvarez, Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz. She is a member of the band Scorpions, works as a stylist for the performing arts, and created the musical project ZIMA with Marta Ramos. 

**Nuno Moniz** holds a degree in theatre and music. In youth theatre, his notable works include _Auto da Barca do Inferno_ (Arte D’Encantar) and _Super Heróis_ (AnimaTeatro). For the general public, he appeared in _Aqui no Paraíso_ (Teatro Trindade). He played the trombone in the band Groove Mood and collaborated with the group Theater Titanick.

**Andrew Nimmo**, who holds a master’s degree in translation, studied Music at CenCEA (Cuba). He has attended courses and workshops with Orlando Sánchez, Matthew Fargion, Seamus Blake and Nuno Ferreira. He was the winner of EYE2025 with _YA SIN_.

**Marta Ramos**, who holds a master’s degree in graphic design and is a graduate of Forum Dança, combines design, drawing and performance. She completed a postgraduate course in performance and has developed editorial projects in collaboration with João Fiadeiro, Julia Salem, Marta Cerqueira and Simão Costa.

Este programa de apoio à criação artística independente acolhe artistas e coletivos na área da dança ou áreas de cruzamento artístico, a nível nacional e internacional, por um período máximo de duas semanas.
