Philosopher, Choreographer, Dancer

Maicom Souza is a Brazilian philosopher, choreographer, dancer and researcher of Afro-Brazilian dance. A doctoral candidate and master's degree holder in Metaphysics from the University of Brasília (UnB), he conducts research in Brazil on the epistemologies of the black body, Yorùbá cosmoperceptions and Afro-referenced choreographic methodologies. Since 2013, he has been co-director of Coletivo Emaranhado, a collective based in Espírito Santo, coordinating creation, training and cultural management with national circulation. His practice integrates philosophy and performance, understanding dance as a field of knowledge production, memory and aesthetic emancipation, in transatlantic dialogue with Afro-diasporic contexts.
