Being an artist and a mother is a fundamental part of Sofia Brito's artistic journey (Lisbon, 1977). She completed P.A.R.T.S (1998) and has a master's degree in Performing Arts from ESTC (2021). She has collaborated with Maria Ferreira Silva, Salva Sanches, Gisèle Vienne, Nadine Ganase, Jan Ritsema, and Graziella Boggiano. She is an improvisational performer in the footsteps of Randy Warshaw, David Zambrano, Steve Paxton (Material for the Spine 2006/07), and Nancy Stark Smith. In 2010, she created Acorda! with Filipe Valentim (musical composition) and Tasso Adamopoulos (lighting design and set design), as a director with the Senior Theater Group. She is co-founder of AORCA, which she co-directs with Sara Martins and Alicja Gladysz. She has written the plays Ser Animal Humano (Being Human Animal) (2023), Vamos Falar Sobre (Let's Talk About) (2024), and Baubo (2025). Currently, her dance practice delves into postmodern movement and eco-somatic practices, and when intertwined with a solid theoretical foundation, it resembles an anthropological search for ancestral and transgenerational memory through the body.
