José Jalane, born in Maputo, Mozambique, is a dancer, choreographer, capoeira practitioner, and teacher. Since childhood, he has been familiar with various forms of dance, initially traditional Mozambican dances and capoeira, and later contemporary dance. In Mozambique, he studied with various national and international teachers. He also attended the Tuco Pamodja international training program in Norway in 2014.
He worked with the National Song and Dance Company between 2011 and 2015. Since 2016, he has been part of the CulturArte Company, under the direction of Panaibra Gabriel Canda, as a performer and choreographic assistant. With this company, he has participated in numerous works, notably “Borderlines” (2021), “Mentiras Aplaudidas” (2022), and “Poema do gesto” (2022).
He presented works as a performer and creator on the international contemporary dance platform KINANI between 2019 and 2023 and has also participated in international festivals in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Reunion Island, India, among others. He premiered his solo project “Sonâmbulo” in 2023.
In the same year, he began his collaboration with Nome Próprio with “Bantu” and is currently participating in Victor Hugo Pontes' new creation, “Há Qualquer Coisa Prestes a Acontecer” (Something is About to Happen). He also participated in the production of “Transit Zwickau” by Teatro Plauen - Zwickau (2025), choreographed by Panaibra Canda, and “Que bem posso escusar trazer escrito em papel o que na alma andar devia” (2025) by Joana Craveiro - Teatro do Vestido, as part of Encontros para o Futuro VII, a program by Estúdios Victor Córdon.
