Other Worlds is a program dedicated to the representation of migrant communities residing in Portugal in new dance creations. Despite the geographical proximity, these immigrant communities often remain on the margin of the local community’s life and become, by virtue of this isolation, potential focal points of exclusion and targets of social prejudice. By making present in institutional spaces the diverse cultures that make up our identity as a society, we can actively contribute to the deconstruction of narratives that dehumanize the other, often making them the target of our shortcomings as a collective.

Cyclically selecting a country in focus, this program aims to draw attention to this country’s culture from the perspective of dance artists. In its second edition, now under the direction of Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz, the focus will be on Afghanistan and Afghan culture. The creation process will extend throughout 2026, with a performance scheduled to premiere in 2027 at Teatro Camões.


Outros Mundos resulta de um programa dedicado à representatividade de comunidades migrantes residentes em Portugal, através de novas criações na área da dança. Apesar da proximidade geográfica, estas comunidades permanecem muitas vezes à margem da vivência da restante comunidade local, o que as torna, por força desse isolamento, potenciais focos de exclusão e alvos de preconceito social. Ao dar presença em espaços institucionais às diversas culturas que nos dão identidade enquanto sociedade, podemos contribuir ativamente para a desconstrução de narrativas que desumanizam o outro, tornando-o muitas vezes alvo das nossas lacunas enquanto coletivo.

O programa, que elege ciclicamente um país em foco, pretende, ao longo da sua duração, dar destaque à cultura desse país através do olhar de criadores da área da dança. Na sua segunda edição, o Afeganistão e a cultura afegã encontram-se em foco, contando com a direção da dupla Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz para a criação de uma nova peça. O processo de criação decorre ao longo de 2026, com a estreia marcada para 2027, no Teatro Camões.

_Other Worlds_ is a program dedicated to the representation of migrant communities residing in Portugal in new dance creations. By making present in institutional spaces the diverse cultures that weave our identity as a society, we can actively contribute to the deconstruction of narratives that dehumanize the other, often making them the target of our shortcomings as a collective.

Throughout its duration, the program, cyclically selecting a country in focus, aims to draw attention to this country's culture from the perspective of an artist in the field of dance. In this first edition, the focus is on Iran and Iranian culture, under the direction of choreographer Clara Andermatt. The piece was created throughout 2024, and its premiere was on January 31 and February 1, 2025, at Teatro Camões, to be followed by other public performances.

The program is also included in the IR ÀS ESCOLAS ["Visiting Schools"] initiative, which aims to make the culture and realities experienced by Iranian people known to young school communities in Portugal through talks and short performances.
