Weeks I and II
In its eighth edition, the Young Composers Program continues to promote a collaborative spirit and to foster interactions among artists in creation processes. This time, it focuses on the artistic areas of composition, writing, and choreography. In the first two weeks, the focus is on the areas of composition and writing.
Stephen Plaice and Marcia Bellamy will both work with Luís Tinoco, co-coordinating the two first weeks of the project. During these weeks, work will be centered on creating music and text for music theater / stage music. Stephen and Marcia will be working primarily with our three guest writers, directing the writing workshop from which will come out the texts to be adapted for the “stage” by our three guest composers. Besides supervising the creative work, they will lecture on dramaturgy, taking examples from their own works.
All coordinators will also collaborate with the participating musicians, helping them develop working methods with the authors (composers and writers) and encouraging them to engage in the creative processes. As a mezzo-soprano singer and librettist with extensive experience in the field of performance, Marcia will additionally work with the participating singers and actors, guiding their work throughout these two weeks of creation.
At the end of Week II, a public presentation of results will be held, on 12th April at 3pm at Estúdios Victór Córdon.
