Conversation on breaking/floorwork between Vanessa Marina and Piny (from the OU.kupa project), as part of a series of conversations and classes with the aim of expanding the scope of common techniques that are part of the daily practice for dance professionals.

Vanessa Marina is an Olympic athlete and well-known b-girl who stands out as one of the best breakdancers in the world. Having graduated in dance in Lisbon, she gained notoriety after moving to London, where she spent 9 years improving her skills and consolidate her career. During this time, she also became a certified gym instructor and collaborated with renowned institutions, such as the Royal Academy of Dance. Vanessa asserted herself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of breaking competitions. She won highly prestigious competitions, including the Redbull BC One UK & Portugal, and she received two bronze medals, among others: one at the European Breaking Championship in 2022 and the other at the WDSF BfG World Series in Porto, in 2023. The major highlight in her career, however, has been her participation at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where she made history when she competed among the 16 best b-girls in the world. Not only did her participation at the Olympic Games confirm her technical excellence, but it also inspired a whole generation of dancers and breaking enthusiasts by showing street dance among the most respected modalities in the global sports scene. Vanessa continues to impact the dance community with projects like Tiny Room Workouts, transforming the physical preparation of dancers, and Bgirlsessions, promoting women empowerment all around the world. She is an example of dedication and resilience, inspiring others not only with what she conquered on stages and in arenas, but also by the way she transforms the community.
