Sol Garcia in residence at the EVC with the project "MECHITA".

Diminutives such as "Mechita" are often used (in some cultures) to refer to children in an affectionate and protective way. By choosing this word as the title of her piece, the creator aims to make the spectator think about the power of an ancestrality which manifests itself even if the person themselves is unaware of it. It manifests in their look, their hands, their voice, their body, without asking permission. This project is a reflection based on fragments of a woman's experience and transposed to the bodies of many women, about the state of enchantment in everything that exists or could exist. The creative work involves visiting, getting to know, and exploring the creator's roots that connect her to a gypsy heritage from her paternal family's side. The aim is to create a crossover between the universe of the creator and that of the performers, using them as living archives where we encounter these common fields: lost childhood, freedom, voice, being a girl/woman, and the choral body. MECHITA goes beyond the simple narrative of life and death to become a celebration of the continuous cycle of renewal and transformation. It is an act of resistance against oblivion, a search for the ephemeral beauty of living.
