In contrast to the movements of modern societies, which are mechanical but also chaotic and violent, dance attunes us to our complex, poetic biological reality. Dance brings us closer to the natural, the animal and the spiritual. In a dancing body's movements, we can discover a deeper meaning to existence.
Diving into the ancestrality and the vibrant force of the earth and the people of Guinea-Bissau, this piece explores the human body as a vehicle for attuning oneself to the mystery of a force connected both to nature and to that great body, the world. Co-created along the aesthetic lines of Pedro Ramos, who understands the body as part of the forest and explores deep ecology and alchemy, and Ernesto Nambera, choreographer of Ballet Nacional/Grupo de Dança Contemporânea da Guiné-Bissau, and drawing inspiration from the great richness, expression and ancestral knowledge of Guinea-Bissau, the piece aims to address the ecological, social and political problems of our time, promoting the reestablishment of trust bonds with both outer and inner nature and beating a path of transformation and resignification of our coexistence. Between ancestrality and contemporaneity, between the holistic experience of the body and the emerging concerns of today, Kurpu di Mundu aims to attune us to our biological and spiritual reality, awakening the feeling of belonging and being connected to the earth.
