“Beyond the physical, chemical, and mystical stuff that goes on in our brain, nobody really knows what’s inside. Some say that the brain controls the body, and some shout: “No, no! The body controls everything!”. There are even some who think that the brain is just a soft paste which, if well cooked, would make great snacks. Thought, language, imagination, sensation, perception, balance, posture, breathing, heartbeat, blood pressure, learning, memory… whew!... how can so much fit inside, when the head is so small? It is known that our brain weights around 1.4 kg, approximately three times the weight of a chimpanzee’s brain and five times the weight of a lion’s, and that it resembles a light-grey cauliflower. The brain is plastic, that is, it is always changing, and this ability to change is called plasticity. When we learn something, new connections are created in our brain, and these connections between neurons become stronger the more often the signals pass through them. But INSIDE THE HEAD there’s also the nose, the mouth with a tongue inside… oh, and also the eyes… whew!... the ears, too. So many things!!!! How are we going to fit all of this into a performance?? It seems an impossible task. Well, let’s get to work!!!!!”
