Presented as part of our In Transit Program, this project reflects on the theme of the forest and our connection to it. Taking a short story by Tatiana Salem Levy as a starting point (viz. Curupira Pirapora, edited by Tinta da China, 2021), Mente de Cão (a physical theater company) and Baileia (a cultural association that works on music and movement with children) will work together to research and create a piece on curiosity, wisdom, and tenderness towards the countless diversities that bring life to these forests.
“Faced with so many catastrophes that paralyze us, render us speechless, haunt us, faced with what we call the destruction of forests, what can we do? Is it too late for us to meet our diversities? To assimilate different ways of feeling-acting, and to re-cognize other world histories? “Curupira” is the being that protects, that defends forests and invites us to confront the urgency of wildlife and to practice a constant co-creation of worlds which may shelter our differences, interculturalities, languages, and ways of communication. In an immersive environment, we are guided through a story where various tensions come into play: sound and silence, light and shadow, language and reality.”
