New creation by Ana Rita Teodoro, André e. Teodósio and João Neves

What is this sound that defines a language and comes with so many meanings? Can a soundscape define the background of our lives? ÃO, referring to a specific nasal diphthong in the Portuguese language, is a work that brings together choreographer Ana Rita Teodoro, musician João Neves and performer and writer André e. Teodósio. The starting point, in the footsteps of artists as different as Meredith Monk or Fátima Miranda, is the creation of a sensorial experience where narrative and visual narrative and visual aesthetics do not overpower sound. Thus, the sound of the piece will be made up of original compositions that use this diphthong, which is so difficult to pronounce for those who do not master the Portuguese language. The sound and the words, which involve the tongue, the lungs, the skeleton and the relationship with the surrounding environment, materialize into ideas, languages, impelling towards order and recreation. ÃO is a choreographic, musical and, in a certain way, ethnographic show that inscribes in the present the meanings generated from a sound experience of the past, when someone said, ÃO.
