Vânia Doutel Vaz is an Angolan performer and choreographer born in Portugal. She trained at Royal Academy of Dance, Escola de Dança do Conservatório Nacional Português and Forum Dança.
She has been a member of Companhia Portuguesa de Bailado Contemporâneo, Revista à Portuguesa at Parque Mayer, the Lisbon disco Trumps, Nederlands Dans Theater II, the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, and the immersive theatre company Punchdrunk, among others. She has worked as a freelancer with Tânia Carvalho, Shannon Gillen, Adam Linder, and Uri Aran, among other artists. Since 2018, she has been working as a performer and rehearsal director with Trajal Harrell. Since 2024, she has been working with Ligia Lewis, replacing her in the solo A Plot | A Scandal.
She has directed movement for Teatro Griot, Zia Soares, the Aurora Negra collective, Teatro Praga, Gio Lourenço, Paula Diogo, and Carolina Varela.
She created and performed the solo O Elefante no Meio da Sala (2022), the video performance ad aeternum (2020), and the durational pop-up performance Bureauc'Art (2019).
She has been a member of UNA since 2021. In 2023, she was featured in Bantumen's POWERLIST.
