Rui Alexandre, Rehearsal Director of the National Ballet of Portugal (CNB), began working as a rehearser in 2010, while he was still a soloist dancer, under the artistic direction of Vasco Wellenkamp. In that year, he worked as an assistant to Wellenkamp in the ballets A Chuva Cai na Poeira... and Lento para Quarteto de Cordas, to Marco Cantalupo in Light, and to Cayetano Sotto in The Rite of Spring. He also restaged Rui Lopes Graça's work Savalliana.
In 2011, under the artistic direction of Luísa Taveira, he was officially promoted to rehearsal director. He restaged the classical ballet Romeo and Juliet by John Cranko, and he worked as an assistant in Paulo Ribeiro's Du don de soi and Uma Coisa em Forma de Assim, and in Olga Roriz' Noite de Ronda. In 2012, he restaged Ted Brandsen's Sleeping Beauty and assisted Paulo Ribeiro in the creation of the short film La Valse. In the same year, he worked as an assistant to Olga Roriz in The Rite of Spring and to Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker in Transfigured Night, The Afternoon of a Faun, and Grosse Fuge, choreographies he later restaged in the following years. He also highlights his experience as an assistant in the following ballets: Swan Lake (Fernando Duarte), Orpheus and Eurydice and Treze Gestos de um Corpo (Olga Roriz), Mozart Concert Arias and Grosse Fuge (Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker), Lídia (Paulo Ribeiro), Minus 16 (Ohad Naharin), The Fire Bird (Fernando Duarte), Carnaval (Victor Hugo Pontes), Quinze Bailarinos e Tempo Incerto (Rui Lopes Graça), and Dido and Aeneas (São Castro e António Cabrita). In 2018, he worked as Tânia Carvalho's assistant in the new creation S, and he worked with choreographer Ambra Senatore in a new creation of hers for CNB, Tocata e Fuga. In 2023, he rehearsed La Sylphide (Auguste Bournonville), namely the roles of James and Gurn. In 2024, he restaged the pas de deux of the ballet Concerto Barocco (George Balanchine).
In addition to rehearsals and ballet restagings, he has been teaching classical dance at CNB since 2014, and gave contemporary and classical dance master classes at various schools and theaters across the country during the CNB's national tours in 2017.
