Dinís Quilavei is one of the most prominent dancers on the contemporary Mozambican scene. A multidisciplinary artist, he moves between dance, music, performance, and theater, with a career marked by the fusion of tradition and contemporaneity. A graduate of the Higher Institute of Arts and Culture (ISARC) in Maputo, Dinís has participated in projects with names such as Janeth Mulapa, Pak Ndjamena, Victor Hugo Pontes, Djam Neguin, and Virgílio Sithole, and has collaborated with companies and institutions in Mozambique, Portugal, Spain, and Cape Verde. His artistic research focuses on the body as a spiritual and cultural territory, exploring the dialogue between Mozambican rituals and contemporary dance languages. He is currently developing a solo piece, “Um corpo chamado templo” (A Body Called Temple), and collaborating as a dancer with the contemporary ballet company Ballet Contemporâneo do Norte. He also works as a teacher, giving workshops on contemporary dance and traditional Mozambican dances at institutions such as Ballet Teatro do Porto, Estúdios Vítor Cordon, Companhia Paulo Ribeiro, and Milorho Grupo de Dança.
