"Islands are apparently isolated places, detached on the surface, but at bottom connected through the seabed, through land itself. Taking this metaphor as a starting point—which reminds us, we mothers, that, if we may sometimes feel isolated on the surface, we are always connected at bottom—, Motherland gives visibility to motherhood as the oldest and most natural job in the world. The proposal to immerse oneself in this creative space is also a way of asserting that it is possible to remain active as a performing arts professional while being a mother of two young children. This space builds on the contradiction inherent to not wanting to do or to prove anything, not wanting to entertain, but merely to be together, inevitably entertaining and creating anew at the same time. Motherland is also a chaotic place, but where life unfolds at its own pace, questioning and reformulating expectations of work times and productivity. Imagination seeks to open new ways of sharing this space as a set, but also as a place of rest, nourishment, study, and care, inviting everyone to engage in the questions that drive us." — Francisca Pinto
