In their first creative collaboration, Henrique Furtado Vieira and Lígia Soares will be studying, reproducing, and reinventing artistic forms that arise from collapsing systems, in order to create a collection of performances based on the historical relation between crises and the emergence of artistic avant-garde movements. With Morrer pelos passarinhos [“To Die For the Little Birds”], they aim to find meaningful ways of sharing with the audience the end of the world as we have come to know it and to remind that, together, we can express “meaninglessness”, a human being torn apart by the world’s lack of order, just as it was expressed in the grief of past generations. Thus, the project challenges our unquestioning acceptance of this world’s continuous deterioration through a collection of funeral rites—a kind of collective grief that may confront us with emptiness, fear, dehumanization, and, most importantly, with one another.
