Esteira ["straw mat"] is a contemporary dance duet in which the expression of the bodies, the mat and the space feed into each other, bringing to light a reflection on various moments in history.
Two bodies in one story use dance and rhythmic movements, as well as other forms of bodily expression, to observe and question how the body reacts and manifests itself to each challenge and cultural experience it encounters.
The idea is to stimulate conflicts between bodies in space, recovering the primordial utility of the straw mat and its place in Mozambican culture. Through architectural (scenographic) and choreographic thinking, Fernando Machaieie and Martins Tuvanji intend to question the relationship between the increasing rhythm, the usefulness of the objects in question, their socio-cultural role and their aesthetic aspect in everyday life.
