"um cavalo disse mamãe" is an independent, multidisciplinary and cross-border collective that emerged in Portugal, in 2022, from the meeting of Francisco Thiago Cavalcanti, Piero Ramella, Bárbara Cordeiro, and Francisca Pinto. The four artists participated in Forum Dança's PACAP 5 (Performing Arts Advanced Programme), curated by choreographer and researcher João Fiadeiro, and they created, in this context, the piece Também se matam cavalos. Since then, they have been developing continuous research work on subjects such as the human and animal condition in a dialogic, poetic and symbolic way.
In its short but rich path, other artists have joined the collective, such as Sara Paternesi, Daniel Pizamiglio, Yaw Tembe, and Walesca Timmen. The collective is currently composed of three Brazilians, two Portuguese, two Italians and a Swazi. They engage in the struggle of minority movements and believe in an artistic approach that provokes action, reflection and transformation.
