Portuguese-born Liliana Barros is an Independent Choreographer and Dancer, based in Germany. A graduate of CODARTS - Rotterdam Dance Academy (BA in dance), she has danced professionally with companies such as Compagnia Zappalá Danza, Pretty Ugly Tanz Köln, under direction of Amanda Miller, Saarländisches Staatsballett and Compagnie Marie Chouinard, in Montreal among others.
Her choreographic works are known for their strong visual identity, intense atmosphere, and distinctive movement language—blending visceral, archaic energy with refined plasticity of movement and use of technical elements in a somewhat deconstructed form. Barros creates immersive worlds with a futuristic edge, where physicality and theatricality collide.
As an independent choreographer, Liliana has created numerous commissioned works for prominent International dance companies such Saarländisches Staatsballett (My name is Legion, 2017), NationalTheater Mannheim (GAIA, 2019), Staatstheater Braunschweig Junges (FunkelFuchs, 2018), Gauthier Dance Company (IN TANDEM, 2020), MiR Dance Company (PANORAMA , 2021), Dance Company Theater Osnabrück (HIGH RELIEF, 2021), Netherlands Dance Theater 2 (GROTTO, 2022) , TanzKassel at Staatstheater Kassel (100Years 100HEARTS, 2022), Ballet Koblenz (Le Sacre du Printemps, 2023), for Staatsballett Hannover (ARCHIUM, 2024), for Hessisches Staatsballett Wiesbaden (FAUNO, 2025) and ZFIN Malta National Dance Company (IGNIS, 2025).
Alongside her commissioned work, she has developed a strong independent artistic voice by producing her independent work. Her solo NERVURE (2017) received several international prizes and toured extensively. Later works such as MEMORABILIA (2019), INERTIA (2020)—a digital project supported by NPN-Steeping out, TECHNO FAUNA (2021), and MATRIARCHS (2024) have been supported by the state of Lower Saxony and major German cultural foundations. TECHNO FAUNA was nominated in 2022 by the Foundation of Lower Saxony as one of the most outstanding productions in the state’s independent performing arts scene and was presented at the BestOFF Festival.
