Dancer, performer

José Ferreira (they/them) is a dance artist and performer, based between Portugal and the Netherlands. He is currently in the fourth and final year of his degree in Dance Artist at ArtEZ University of the Arts, in the Netherlands.

His journey in movement began at the age of ten, through dancesport, which he practised competitively at national level until 2019. He subsequently studied at the Escola Superior de Dança and, since then, has collaborated as a performer and creator in various contemporary dance contexts.

Among the projects in which he has participated are Salão Pavão by Marco da Silva Ferreira (2024), Joy Enjoy Joy (adaptation) by Ann Van den Broek (2023), and Porque é Infinito by Victor Hugo Pontes (2021).

His practice takes the body as both medium and discourse, blending contemporary dance and performance. He is interested in perception, relationships and shared experience, exploring how everyday bodily actions can become choreographic material and create temporary forms of community. His works include 5 Minutes Solo (2024) and Grassland, co-created with Misha Kazakov (2025).
