Ernesto Nambera is a choreographer and dancer at the dance company Esta é a Nossa Pátria Amada (National Ballet). He is also the artistic director and choreographer of the contemporary dance company of Guinea-Bissau, being among the most prominent names in the field of dance in this country. With a career spanning over 35 years, he began dancing as a child in the group Netos de Morkunda, in São Domingos. Since than, he has treaded a unique path, marked by in-depth research into the fusion of traditional Guinean dance and contemporary dance.
A graduate from the international renowned École des Sables (Senegal), he deepened his knowledge under African and European masters. In addition to his dance practice, Nambera has developed skills in music, cultural production and digital technologies, adopting a multidisciplinary approach to his work.
Over the course of his career, he has collaborated with the National Ballet of Guinea-Bissau, has been active as an instructor and organizer of several educational projects, and has participated in both national and international festivals.
More than a choreographer, Ernesto Nambera is a cultural mediator, whose works take the body as a starting point, understanding it as a territory of memory, resistance and transformation. His work incorporates oral tradition, personal stories, and critical reflections on such themes as migration, identity and presence.
