Performer & Coreographer
Marlene Monteiro Freitas, founder of P.OR.K, was born in Sal but it was in S.Vicente, where she grew up, that she co-founded the Compass dance group. She studied dance at P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels), at the Superior School of Dance and at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon).
She has worked with Emmanuelle Huynh, Loïc Touzé, Tânia Carvalho, Boris Charmatz, among others. He created the pieces Bacantes - Prelude to a Purge (2017), Jaguar with the collaboration of Andreas Merk (2015), _of ivory and flesh - statues also suffer _(2014), _Paradise - private collection _(2012 13), _(M)imosa _with Trajal Harrell, François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengolea (2011), _Guintche _(2010), _The Seriousness of the Animal (_2009-10), _The Improbability of Certainty _(2006), Larvar (2006) and _First Impression _(2005), works that have openness, impurity and intensity as a common denominator.
In 2017, The Portuguese Society of Authors (SPA) awarded Jaguar the prize for best choreography and, in the same year, she was distinguished by the Government of Cape Verde for her cultural achievements. In 2018 she created the piece Canine Jaunâtre 3 for Batsheva Dance Company. Also in 2018, the Venice Biennale awarded Marlene the Silver Lion in the Dance category.
In 2020, her piece _Bacantes - Prelude to a Purge _received the Best International Performance Award by the Préemis de la Critica d'Arts Escèniques de Barcelona. He premiered MAL - Embriaguez Divina, his new creation, in August 2020 in Kampnagel, Hamburg, Germany counting in 2021 with a world tour. He has an ongoing collaboration with O Espaço do Tempo (PT).
She is the co-founder of P.OR.K, structure of production based in Lisbon.
